Not seeing the point of code distributions

You have to be connected to Wi-Fi to use them, so it's pretty much Nintendo Network events with a few extra steps. I could maybe see a bit of a point if it was a distribution as a prize for a tournament, say, but why would we need that for the Heracro/Pinsirite?

Because how else would we get Mega Heracross in X and Mega Pinsir in Y?

My guess is that it makes it easier to have store/event-based distributions without having those distribution machines that were needed in previous generations. The GameStop Mega Stone distribution, for example, meant that stores could still give out the items without needing someone hooking up those machines in the store beforehand (and potentially have it not work during the distribution period!). They just gotta hand out a card with a code and that's it.

The Wi-Fi requirement is probably there since the distributions aren't pre-programmed into the game, and so it's for verification purposes or something like that.

I just hate how you have to go to a store to get these. Especially since very little Australian stores support them. I wish these events could just be like the Torchic event where you just download via Mystery Gift.

A regular Wi-Fi event? Have the distributed Pinsirs and Heracrosses hold it?
