Guess who just had their save file corrupted?

Rate this Entry
Yeah, my SoulSilver file was 'erased due to corruption or damage.' Seven hundred and fifty nine hours of work, all gone.
350+ Pokémon caught.
420+ Pokémon seen.
So many Pokémon still had to be transferred, and my little cousin's FireRed team was still there. I only have her Articuno now.
My team was still there too. Now I'll never see them in 3D on X and Y. Typhlosion, Ampharos, Dragonite, Espeon, Lapras, and Tyranitar. I lost my event Jirachi(the PokéWalker one), Arceus(the Sinjoh Ruins one), and Hayley's Mew(got that in a trade here) too.

Time to start again I guess...

How did it get erased? try reinserting the cart because I got the same message once, I was so pissed that I shut off the game and walked away. Then played something else eventually when I went back to restart the game my save file was fine.

I also realized I lost the Saikyou Salamence I got off the GTS for a Garchomp. That was probably my favorite Dragon I had. There's only a few hundred of those I think.

I've tried that a couple times already. Last week it kept saying 'the previous save will be loaded.' Do you have any other ideas what I should do?

Maybe try a different DS that's about it. If it does come back you may want to transfer all your pokemon to a different game. If they don't come back I'm more than willing to help you rebuild your teams.

I've tried that already. The game was in my other DS trying to transfer things when I realized what happened. It kept saying that the connection was 'disrupted' and the cartridge was 'corrupted', and then it canceled the transfer.

Then the only thing I can suggest is to give it a little time.

Do you think it would be a good idea to try to clean the contacts? On closer inspection, they do look a little dirty. I don't know what to safely clean them with though.

Well, here's a little explanation, in case you didn't know already.
Basically, the games since Gen III actually have two save files. This is so if the game turns off during the saving process (thus corrupting the save like in earlier generations), it will actually notice a flag being set early in the save, so it can at least load from the last working, backup save.

Now, however, this is for that specific error (the game turning off during saving). If it was giving that message (and loading from this save) all the time last week though, even if you succesfully saved the game... it means something regarding saving the game is wrong altogether.

I pressume now you can't even load the backup save and that it is also corrupt. In case it isn't, I would immediately try to see if I could transfer to Gen V outside of the game.
But it seems you already have tried that... In fact, if you were trying that last week while it was trying to load from the backup save all the time, then this just looks for the recent save.

In the end though, the fact that the backup save got corrupted should say that there's something wrong with the game. Try starting a "no save" new game and attempt to save to see how it reacts.

Or who knows, hopefully it's just bad contacts.

When I boot up the game, it says 'The save file will be erased due to corruption or damage.'(it then cuts to the info screen shown before a new game), which I'm guessing means that I can't even access the second file. I've had the game since release, and I thought the newer games couldn't corrupt this easily.

When I try to save a new game, it says 'Would you like to save?(picked Yes) Saving a lot of data... please don't turn off the power.'
Yeah... I think that save is gone. I think I might have a few of my old Pokémon on Pokécheck in case of something like this happened to any of my games(so I could emergency transfer them that way), but it's only four or five of them. Better than nothing I suppose.

I really appreciated your help though. C: I had this happen a lot with the old Silver version I had(it was a bootleg after all..), so I am pretty used to it now.
