Did I do the right thing?

So I did the Taste of Death quest. That cannibal woman told me to clear out a dungeon full of Draugr (no problem, I've done that loads of times) to get to a shrine of Namira. Afterwards, she told me to draw Verulus to the shrine, so I could kill and eat him.

But when I met Verulus, I realized that I didn't want to kill and eat him. So I stopped.

I left Markarth 100 septims and an Amulet of Arkay richer. I do not think I will be returning. Do you think I did the right thing, guys?

If you're worried about legitimate Skyrim trophy/achievement completion, you made the wrong choice. If you already have all those and are playing for additional kicks... Nomming on a few Skyrim citizens doesn't hurt, sometimes they taste rather nice.

I have a general character outline and I'm trying to base my choices on said outline.

Not necessarily. There's an easily-exploitable glitch where you can get two items from Hircine's quest.
@Kree; if you go back and kill the cannibals, you'll fail the quest (taking it out of your quest book), but you'll get the priest as a follower, IIRC.

Quite aware, actually, I used it myself to nab both Daedric Artifacts for my collection :p Problem is, if you've already failed to obtain another artifact, then the Hircine exploit won't help since the game only has one artifact more than the achievement requires (and playing a moral character will easily result in multiple artifact misses ^^; ). Course, if you're playing the PC version... You can just be a cheater-cheater and use the console to restart a quest, or just use it to gain the artifact. Still, if one wants to obtain the achievements 100% legit (including without glitch exploit), skipping any Daedric quest will lock a player out of that one.
