Academy Awards and Summer Blockbusters

Rate this Entry
Am I the only person who cares for summer blockbusters to be included in the academy awards and hope that one of those films will win rather than another PG-13/R-rated Drama movie, which has been parodied by other comedic media such as Cracked. Seriously, the summer blockbusters seem to be the only set of films the audience give a darn about to determine the quality of Hollywood (whether it's original or based on an existing source material). Jaws was the first summer blockbuster that started the trend, and it won several awards. If the majority of summer blockbusters are positive (Ex: Avengers, TDK), then there is a healthy sign for Hollywood's future, but if the majority of them are panned (Ex: TFRotF, Green Lantern), then there is a sign of the moviepocalypse. So please, Hollywood, let a highly successful summer blockbuster at least win for movie of the year for once.

    Green Lantern sucked.
  2. Tsutarja's Avatar
    Avengers was awesome, though.

@Kree; @Tsutarja; Yes I know, that's why I labeled them in their respective receptions. What I want to know is that is it a good idea to hope for a summer blockbuster to win oscars, even for movie of the year.

I'd prefer dramatic films over just about any summer blockbuster (they've also been parodied by just about everyone, including Cracked) with the exception of actual good ones. And anyway the Oscars are silly.

    To each his own :P
