EV Training - Which way to go?

Rate this Entry
Ok so I'm EV training my Lillipup. With future evolutions in mind, I can't decide whether to build up its HP, Defense, Speed or Sp. Def.

Any thoughts?

(I've already maxed out it's EVs in Attack. It's Adamant and Likes to Thrash About).

I'd say speed, which I think would be great if it had Sand Rush.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's got Vital Spirit so by the time it evolves into Herdier it'll have Intimidate. Would you still go for speed?
I was thinking that because Intimidate will lower the opponents physical attacks, maybe Sp. Def would be worth building up so that it'd have a pretty good Defense all over? Or do you think it maybe wouldn't come up against enough Special attacks to make that a worthwhile approach...?

Sp. Defense sounds good. It's Normal, so it's only weak to Fighting, which is mostly physical. I'm no expert, but you might run into special Fighting moves like Aura Sphere. Is this for the metagame? Because in my experience, you'll run into a lot of Aura Sphere Pokemon when going against real people.

It's actually not for the metagame - in fact, it's the first Pokemon I've ever EV trained! I just really wanted to train a Pokemon to be as good as it could possibly be because I've never done it before.

Now that you've raised the fighting type weakness..I'm split between building Sp. Def or Defense. Good defense paired with Intimidate will make it really strong in the face of a physical attack. Hmmm. Food for thought!

Thanks very much for your opinion on the matter, it's helped a lot :)

@JaggedRag; Will this be for in-game?

I'd still go for Speed, even with Intimidate.

Yeah, it's for in-game. Well, at least to begin with. I plan to level it up to about 14 or 15 then trade it over to White2 when I get it. Level it up to 100 in White2.

So it will have Intimidate? I think raising that Special Defence together with Speed would really help.

Thank you everyone for your input :)

I've decided to split the remaining 252 EVs between Speed and Special Defence.

Here's to my first EV trained Pokemon! Awoohoo
