Gawd My Generation is Dumb!

Not to repeat too much of my MTV rant, but wow teens these days are focking dumb, and it doesn't bode well for our future if 'we are the future.'

I know it's a small sample size, but I look at my high school as a typical 'suburban high school.' we have our cliques and stuff, and we are pretty diverse socioeconomically.

And we are stupid! Everyone thinks worth is determined by clothes, hair, makeup, etc. And if you try to ignore those things and just live your life the way you think you should, you get demonized for it.

I am a normal girl, I wear makeup on special occasions, I wear respectable clothes that are relatively in-style but not the latest little trends. So don't get me wrong, I'm not Amish or overly nerdy or angry at the entire world.

But how dare I actually value schoolwork and getting good grades over trying to be a barbie doll!?? I, unlike some people at my school, realize that when I'm 25...being the prom queen doesn't mean shit if you fail half your classes.

I just think its stupid that I get made fun of by 'the popular girls' for not showing cleavage all the time or not wanting to spend all my free time at the mall or reading cosmo! Sorry, I'm trying to get into a good college and get a good education so I can get a good job later in life and actually have a successful life.

Then again, in our society it seems like beautiful people who care only about their looks are actually pretty successful...Spears, Hilton, Kardashian, etc.

Again MTV and television in general I guess, instills these values in kids today and it's not good. Boys just don't seem to be attracted to girls who have smarts or musical talent or artistic talent, etc. only which girl is hottest!!!

Sorry, didn't mean to rant. But I had bad day cuz the guy I like at school sort of picked the stereotypical 'cheerleader' type over me...

I know there are plenty of cheerleaders, football players, etc. that are perfectly nice and actually do have intelligence...but it doesnt feel like that number is very high...

I think this is a very valid, and kind of scary reality. Although I was one of the few "jocks" who wasn't an ass, so I'm not a fan of all the stereotypes, even if they are partially true. But I guess that was because I was a "geek" until my junior year, when I had a growth spurt and suddenly people start liking me and inviting me to things as soon as I start winning wrestling matches. Funny how the world works.

I guess a piece of advice I could give you, from someone who somehow made it through high school and got into a very respected college, is just ignore the people who give you shit. And once you get into the school of your choice, and they're getting their rejection letters the world will look a whole lot nicer. Oh, and once you get to college, a lot of the shit you have to deal with in high school is gone, or a lot less prevalent.

Do you know they *actually* like those girls, or do they just *say* they do?

I've always, ALWAYS looked beyond appearances when deciding someone's worth.

Those fashion sluts? No future, no worth, no nothing.

You? Clearly in for a happy and successful future.

Don't worry. When those superficial retards are sweeping the floors in your big and fancy house, things are gonna feel a lot better.

Wow- so very true. Our health teacher keeps telling us that the next generation is supposed to be better then the one before it- because we're supposed to learn from our parents mistakes so that our kids are even better then we were... It's not working, we're getting worse. I think it's very respectable that you dress modestly and do what will count later in life rather then what counts now ^_^- I get mocked a lot as well for not following the other teens... Someone actually told me I was breaking the Teen Rules because I wouldn't participate in stupid things XD- made me laugh.

    So true, sadly true...

I hate that girls are always preferring jocks that have more brawn than brains over someone that's just balanced out I mea people are just so used to see in it on TV they think TV is actually real life; which it isn't.

Point is, just ignore those people, you look like a nice girl and I'm sure you'll be better than them when it comes to the future

awww thanks everyone! I'm glad people agree. It's funny I get made fun of at school for even pointing out that things like fashion, makeup, and other superficial crap is meaningless. they just tell me im jealous! LOL.

And Legacy, you know I'm with you always and 4ever! ;)

I'm with you 100%. Heck, this whole MTV generation issue and wanting to stop it is one of the reasons why I'm trying to bring Misty back onto Pokemon.

The MTV issue, IMO, it is just the beginning. Soon, many of these girls will also end up dying en masse from Car Wrecks, Anorexia, Bulimia, Alcoholism, and STDs (The Anorexia/Bulimia issue is probably even more directly related, because my Health Class during Middle School had pretty much taught us that Modeling Magazines/Porn related Magazines are a major contributing force to the outbreak, even going as far as to include a seminar in the 6th grade basically telling us this.).

Disney even capitalized on this aspect of our generation, and basically ruined several of the female main characters in some of their movies (even Ariel, the savior of Disney, was no exception. They basically changed her entire character from the Movies and TV series into becoming an object thats too similar to the examples of the MTV generation that you listed above.). In fact, thanks to their decision, the only thing they'll know about Ariel, Jasmine, and Belle are that they are basically the cartoon versions of Lindsae Lohan and Paris Hilton thanks to that, and they will most likely never learn about their pre-DP acts.

As much as it pains me to tell you, even Dawn seems no different than the stereotypes you just cited.

While I may be more than willing to watch reruns, I'm not sure about the rest of the planet, hence why I have doubts about using Android 18, Fasha, and others as role models.

There must be a way to get rid of these stereotypes for good. I know several members of the Cheerleading Squad that were not like that stereotype at all (heck, most of them were part of the German club, SGA, and many other high-intelligence capabilities, and some of the Football team members at least try to get good enough grades to ensure graduation.).
