Five games that would have gotten me more excited than those GS remakes

Just to be clear; I am not even the tiniest bit excited about these upcoming GS remakes. Couldn't give two shits about them. To me, my excitement level at the announcement of the GS remakes is about the same as when I hear about a new Ubisoft Petz game. Really don't see what all the fuss is about.

Apparently, this attitude makes me some kind of outcast in this fandom. Boo-hoo.

So what *would* have excited me? What games would I actually look forward to? Well...

05) A new console RPG. Now I wasn't that *huge* a fan of Colosseum, but I thought that XD managed to fix a lot of the problems and showed that Genius Senority was learning from their mistakes. And I'd like to see how they'd do on the Wii. The game could still end up sucking, but at least it would be a case of the franchise *trying* to do something new.

04) A new Pokemon Ranger game. I've been playing the second one a lot lately, and I've gotta tell ya...this game does pretty much does everything right that DPP managed to screw up. And since the second game doesn't seem to have been a rehash of the first one, I would have no reason to expect a third entry to be a rehash either.

03) "Pokemon TCG DS." We got that one TCG video game back in the Game Boy days (and a Japan-only sequel), but since then, we haven't gotten squat. Even though they keep making the cards. The DS would be the perfect hardware to make a card-based game on, with its dual screens and touch screen and all, and adding WiFi features would keep players coming back to it time and time again.

02) A Mario Party-type Pokemon game for the Wii. Kind of like those mini-games in Stadium, but more fleshed out. There are more than enough pokemon out there to create enough unique mini-games, and I can see fans of all ages having a lot of fun with it.

01) Pokemon Snap 2. Come on Nintendo...either of your two current systems would be *perfect* for this. Seriously...what's the hold up?

So yeah...fuck those GS remakes.

I'm glad someone other than me isn't too bothered about HGSS.

I'm excited about them, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants to see a party game collection.

But party/mini-game-collection games often turn out redundant, repetitive, and gimmicky, only fun when played with friends.

Another TCG game would be cool, but not as many people would play it as the mainstream games...

I can understand the frustration. I mean Gold/Silver re-makes don’t have me super-excited, either. The only good thing about it is that the younger fans that didn’t get to play the old Game Boy Color games will finally be able to.

I much rather hear news about a new Pokémon Wii game because having Battle Revolution as the only Pokémon Wii console game is stupid. Pokémon Stadium 3 is long overdue.

    Pokémon Snap 2.

    Are you serious.

The second crappiest game they ever made behind only Hey You Pikachu!.

I guess spiting all the people who DO want HeartGold/SoulSilver just so you can fufill your own little fantasy is a good thing, huh?

EDIT: You can't walk diagonally in Snap either.

Pokemon Snap was a lot of fun, I thought. It was different from just about any other game out there and is, for some reason, the only game to date to use the pokemon voices from the TV show (like...what the hell, GameCube games?). Yes, it could have been beaten in a few hours and had almost zero replay value, but those are the type of things a sequel could fix if given a chance.

Besides, the current generation hardware would be great for the game. Aiming a camera, whether it's with a touch screen or a Wii remote, would be a lot more responsive than doing it with analog sticks. Add picture sharing via WiFi and you've got yourself a game.

I do agree with you about "Hey You! Pikachu," though.

    Um...what?

EDIT: You can't walk diagonally in Snap either.

First: I think Game Freak should make Pokemon TCG DS because The TCG is really good and fun. Also Yu-Gi-Oh! always make a new game for the DS every year so why not Pokemon.

Second: No offense, but I think your overreacting with "F**k those GS remakes" because almost everyone wanted them. It seems like Game Freak listens to the fans and decided to make them. I personally think this is a good idea for those who never played GSC or those who can't because of the lost of memory in the games. If you think this is a bad idea then don't buy them when they come out.

Other than that I'm done commenting/ranting

I agree with Dogasu; everyone has their game preferences.

Just because "everyone wanted them", doesn't mean everyone has to give a shit.

Also, I think there would be very few people who were too young for G/S/C the first time round that would even look at the originals twice. It's one thing to be excited about a remake, it's another to care enough to play the original, and I defy you to find more than 5 that wouldn't take one look at the graphics and go "LOLPHAIL."

EDIT: Also, FUCK YEAH Snap2 and TCGDS.

Well the need for multiple players is naturally a disadvantage if you also want decent single-player gameplay, which lowers appeal. Would you really want to shell out a good 50 bucks for a party game that is limited in use?

And many of those Pokemon spin-off games are only appealing to fans, due to flaws and laziness.

They want to make games that will be financially successful. The mainstream Pokemon games are good cash cows for Nintendo. Moo. A remake may not excite everyone, but the mainstream games are generally tried-and-true formulas. No reason for them not to make remakes.

I understand your views on this. I feel the same way towards Generation I fanboys that act as if the original 151 Pokemon were flawless works of God. The ones that claim anything made after Mew is total shit.

I personally want these games because the originals had amazing potential that wasn't reached. It's still way too early to see what will be done but I think it will be good.

I'm part of the majority for the games. While it's partially do to nostalgia, I consider them a second chance. Johto was also my favorite region concept-wise. I loved the setting, it had most of my favorite gym leaders, and most of the new Pokemon were great. I'm personally excited to see what they will do to give the region more justice.

But yeah, not everyone should be excited, but that doesn't mean they should ruin it for the rest. I'm glad to see that you expressed your views maturely, you're pretty much the only person not excited for the remakes that has done this. I've seen a handful of people around here that have been acting really rude and immature towards the HGSS fans.

Yes, because we really need another shitty console RPG or lame Ranger game over a relatively good remake of a great GBC game.

Dude, you *just* registered on these forums and this is one of the first posts you make?

As far as the console RPG goes, I already addressed that:

And I *liked* the Ranger game I played. It's a nice plot-driven game that actually feels like it was made with the Nintendo DS' hardware in mind.

HGSS could be good, yeah, but I doubt they'll provide the features that I feel the Ranger games bring to the franchise. And I'll take a new Ranger game over "Diamond & Pearl set in the Jouto region" any day of the week.
