well....ive been playing fire emblem awakening more recently(my 3ds has not been off for two weeks at this point. eventually my charger is going to explode) and one thing ive noticed is that just about every AI controlled character, whether it be an enemy or an ally, just love to charge towards the nearest enemy even if that enemy would clearly kill them in one hit. to me one of the most infamous examples is paralogue 23. 50 enemies and all I had to do was move my avatar into range and watch as all 50 practically threw themselves in the way of his absolis sword.

Try Henry as a Sorcerer with Counter in his skillset and plenty of Nosferatus. This also works. >:)

I really enjoyed Fire Emblem but I didn't like the permi death threat. Some people say that it makes the game more of a challenge and granted I did lose two-three minor underleveled characters in the game early on. However it ruined the game due to making me overly grind on trash encounters until my lvl 20 Sorcerers and Dragon characters basically could solo everything to ensure a mistake wouldn't provide deadly. That kind of spoiled a lot of the boss fights making them too easy.

Next time I play it I intend to pick a harder difficulty without the permi death (if possible) so I can have a challanging playthrough without the lame game over deaths or massively having to grind. I am enjoying Bravely Default far more on a tactical level as I have not been compelled to god mode my characters.

The AI is savvy enough to know that most players reset the moment a character dies. Therefore, the AI is not trying to win. It's trying to kill just one character no matter the cost. Doesn't matter how many AI units die. If they can do enough collective damage to kill a unit of yours, even with abysmal hit rates, they'll do it.

That said, Awakening is a poorly designed game in general.

so far that definitely seems true. what this game really needs is a wifi multiplayer mode, that way instead of infinitely watching risen commit suicide by mage, we can face someone who cares about keeping their people alive
