Bulbasaur:

Swinub:

Swinnub

NUB

lolololololol Nubnubnubnubnubnubnub Way to be offensive to noobies, and amputees, Nintendo. :( [Repeat this subject about 50 times throughout thread]

Gyarados, Sableye:
No, just no.

Umbreon, Zapdos, Articuno, Molteres, Flareon:
The Japanese names were already plain English, why did Nintendo have to complicate things and change them? Makes no sense.

Buizel:
Boy-sel? Bui-zel? Why do they have to spell it and pronounce it the way the yanks do! Damn yanks ruin everything good in the world! I wish there was no America, then the would would be so damn perfect! What? I'm way off topic with my inflammatory tirade that is more suited to a political debate thread than a thread about Pokémon names? Nah!

Dusknoir:
Dusk what? No-ear? No-err?

Hippopotas, Girafarig:
Needlessly complicated name!

Spheal:
We already have Seel, Nintendo! Why make a make that sounds like an old Pokémon's name! Not like they are both based on the same animal or anything.

Geodude:
Hurr, Geode + Dude, har har, Nintendo. There is no place for silly puns in Pokémon!

Abra
A bra. I am disappoint in your immature minds, Nintendo.

Gligar: Glee, Gly, Gleh? No clue on what they were going for that name for this gliding scorpion Pokémon. Would be easier to understand if they left the Japanese spelling.

Chingling: An onomatopoeia for the sound a chime/bell makes... I have a sound for you, Nintendo. Boo!

Jigglypuff, Wigglytuff *insert mandatory death threats to the localization team*

Know what the best part is? We get to do this all over again in about four and a half years.

Aloe has medicinal qualities appreciated the world over. It deserves much more respect than it gets in the plant kingdom, it is quite pretty and makes a lovely low-care houseplant. Digimon.

This, in my own opinion, is one of the most inane statements that could ever be muttered by a member of the Pokémon fandom, yet, it is one of the most common statements made during the start of a new generation.

Starting at the basic, opinions are subjective. I could say that a bullfrog looks like an elm tree, that doesn't mean the world is going to see it that way.

Second, and this is a big one, there is a fundamental difference in the design styles for Pokémon and Digimon. Overall most many Digimon have design features you would never see on a Pokémon, such as huge plates of metallic armor/spikes, or man-made weaponry/items. Some Digimon wear clothes, many are cyborgs or machines. There is are also a substantial number of humanoid Digimon, which pretty much look like a standard human character in a costume.

Pokémon designs are generally more organic and natural, no man-made weapons, clothing, or armor. And the closest things to 'humanoid' Pokémon are still quite distinctively non-human.

Now, moving to the point where I suspect some fans are tripping up. Some Pokémon and Digimon designs share a common origin, in other words, they 'look alike' because they are based on the same animal, or concept.

I'll use Houndoom and Dobermon as examples. Both creatures are based on a Doberman Pinscher, thus, both designs strongly feature traits of a Doberman. However, the designs are quite distinct, I could never confuse Dobermon for Houndoom or visa-versa. So I would not say that Houndoom looks like a Digmon, I would say that Houndoom looks like a Doberman Pinscher, which is of course the whole point of it's design.

It would be nice if fans more fans thought a little thought to the fact that if both a Pokémon and a Digimon are based on the same creature or concept, then the resemblance they see are the common traits of the object that both creatures design is based off of.

Then there are the people that use the "They look like Digimon" as a way of depreciating new Pokémon, it is for that reason my examples were chosen from among Pokémon from Generations I and II (and these examples are just a few). These comparisons are as old as both franchises, and if coincidentally sharing a common inspiration with a Digimon is a sin, then it is a sin that all the generations bear, and shall bear.

All-in-all I did better than I expected for a doubles match, and I had fun. I think I will hang onto this team and maybe tweak it a little for future doubles/VGC-style matches.

In light of recent discussion on my VM's in which it was mentioned that I do not publicly disclose my views on MindCrystal before I virtual high-five anyone for stating a view that I happen to agree with.

So, it is in the interest of full disclosure that I post my own personal, not repeated, puppeted or fed to anyone else views on the Mind Crystal speculation.

This will be in the form of responses I would make if I were to post the MindCrystal thread.

The first point I would bring up would be that GameFreak is not in the habit of remaking remakes. In fact, I do not think there is any company that does; There is no Kingdom Hearts Final Mix: The REAL Final Mix.

Then there is the argument that it would not be a remake of anything, but a new game set in the Johto region.

The biggest argument there is, if they are going to make a brand new game, why wouldn't they just make a brand new game?

The other argument is, what will be different about it?

Added/changed gym rosters? They did that in HG/SS, post Elite Four.

Making all the Gen II Pokémon catchable in Johto, pre-E4? As I recall, they did that in HG/SS with the Safari Zone.

Expanding the story? They did that in HGSS, some people may be unsatisfied with it, but that does not make it a legitimate argument for a new game.

Appearances for Leaf/Brandon/May/Wallace/Kris/whoever? This falls into the same argument as expanding the story. If GameFreak wanted character X to appear in HG/SS, they would have appeared. The same goes for visible IVs/EVs, VS Seeker, and any other items on the MindCrystal laundry list.

Then there is the infamous Junichi Masuda said that there will be a release main series release every 2 years argument. For starters, I would like it very much the people so quick to point out this quote would actually provide the source of the quote, because the closest I have come to it is one of the interviews before the US release of Platinum in which the exact quote is:

Masuda: Basically the game developing takes two years. If you have a great idea in the beginning you can develop for the two years. But along the way we come up with lots of great ideas. But there's always a deadline so you have to make a decision at some point. So if there's a really good idea in the middle or towards the end we have to keep that until the next game.

If this is indeed the infamous 2-years quote, then people have been broadly misquoting it. If this is not the right quote, then people need to find it, and provide it especially if they are going to brandish it around as the evidence/indication of anything.

My argument on the Rock Capsule?
If it is not junk data that will never be used, then it is most likely for a Manaphy-style interaction with another game.

I'm not pretending to know how GameFreak works, I'm not pretending that my ideas are the only ones, or that I know what's best and if GameFreak doesn't do as I say, they are stupid.

I am taking what has already happened, what I already know, and drawing a conclusion based on that. Nothing more, and nothing less. The MindCrystal thread is for speculation, I have no speculation, I have a stance that MindCrystal will not be GameFreak's next Pokémon title, thus I refrain from posting in that thread.

I hope this has been informative to the people that needed to see my arguments, and if they are satisfied, I will return to my virtual high-fiving of whomever I choose.

EDIT: Time to update.

We now have an introductory trailer for movie 13, of course it features the three Legendary Beasts, and of course the usual members have taken the presence of these Pokémon in the movie as a sign of MindCrystal. So it is once more time to be transparent with my thoughts about these developments.

Traveling back in time to see the events of the Burned Tower? This has now been disproved by the trailer and the bits of information accompanying it, the movie 13 plot will focus on the future, not the past. Ho-oh's role in the movie, if any, will likely be minimal.

Alternate forms for the Beasts? Or their original forms from the legend of the Burned Tower showing up in the movie? Not likely. The setting for the movie appears to be another anime-exclusive location, as always.

The plot as implied by the trailer and hints so far is that Celebi sees the Beasts (not alternate forms) fighting amongst each other in the future then it and Ash and company seem to be trying to prevent this future from happening. For the beasts to be "reincarnated in the future" they would have to die in the present, the likelihood of a movie starting with the legendary Pokémon already dead is slim, and the possibility of them killing each other/dying off during the movie is even less likely.

The next theory is that Celebi somehow saved the Beasts original forms, and will reveal them to calm the Beasts and stop their fighting. This assumes that: Celebi witnessed the events at Burned Tower, it let the three Pokémon perish in the fire and be reincarnated, and then it used a device (read: Device, as in made by humans) that likely didn't even exist in the ancient times when the Brass Tower existed, and locked the original forms away, saving them because it wanted the Beasts to never forget their original forms.

The fallacies should be apparent, but I will illustrate them for the sake of clarity.

1. Celebi witnessed the deaths of three Pokémon, and rather than use its ability to save them, it decided they should die.

2. If Celebi deemed that the three Pokémon were supposed to die and be reincarnated, then why would it bother with saving their original forms. Furthermore, working under the assumption that there was more than one of each of the three Pokémon, why are there no more? Three died, Celebi "locked three away" so, all the others just went extinct?

3. The events in which the Brass Tower burned down happen in ancient times, the Rock Capsule is clearly a device made by humans from modern times. This theory suggests that Celebi took a human device that is basically a Poké Ball with a lock, and traveled back in time, and used it to "save" the three Pokémon, traveled back to the present, and stored the device, and whatever key opens it, just in-case Raikou Entei and Suicune forget their origins, when there is no sign that the Beasts ever recalled what they were originally.

That is a stretch for even a movie plot, let alone anything the games would do.

Then there is the Capsule itself. As a rule, it's normally One Pokémon per egg/Poké Ball/Capture device, so it is extremely unlikely that the Rock Capsule has three Pokémon inside of it. Which means if a Pokémon is inside of it, it would be a single creature, like Manaphy, not part of a set.

EDIT 2:

To those that are so worried about "having the blame put on them" over the 2-year quote, I would like to point out that I never named any names the only thing I asked for was the source of the quote, which has still yet to be provided by the way. It was in-fact Unown Lord that assigned names to the misinterpretation (read the comments, third comment, first paragraph) of the quote so if you have concerns about blame being put on you, kindly take them up with the person that brought your names up in the first place. Thank you, and good day.

EDIT 3: MindCrystal? Myth Busted. I will be awaiting the eventual EnigmaEmerald speculation.

Recently I have found myself in a rather spirited debate over the merits, and possibility of a remake of Generation III.

Now, I myself find the possibility of remakes to be exceedingly high taking into account a precedent that is now two generations strong, the fact that Ruby and Sapphire are approaching their 10th year, and will reach it before a little before, or a little into Generation V (depending on when it begins) and, the very real likelihood that Generation V may be incompatible with Generation III titles.

This appears to be a reasonable line of thinking to me, but then, this is ME we're talking about.

Enter the opposing view, every good debate has at least two sides. The proposed arguments against remaking Generation III are, that the games feel too recent, the games are unpopular, skippable, the worst in the series, there is no demand for Gen III remakes (and that if demand builds it will never reach the levels that GSC remake demands did), and that the only reason Game Freak would remake these titles is money, and the remake train should stop at HeartGold and SoulSilver because Game Freak should be putting their energy into brand new games.

Now, you may notice that much of the opposing view is comprised of opinion, some touted as widely held, and some from scarcest of locales. You may also notice that quite a few of these opinions/points apply to HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Here is where the hypocrisy comes in, the better percentage of the people making these arguments, are people that have spent the years months and weeks leading up to the announcement of HeartGold and SoulSilver speculating and arguing for remakes.

I pose the question, how could the same justifications and criteria that applied for Generation II remakes, suddenly be invalid and non-applicable in the case of Generation III remakes(which is actually starting out with a much stronger case thanks to the precedent that has been set by FR/LG and HG/SS)?

After this exchange of (what I assumed was) bold new concepts on human/spambot interaction the bot saw fit to cease responding to me. No doubt, it went down to celebrate at it's local Penis. The lucky bastard.

Apparently, for a few brief moments I was part of some grand internet social experiment... So, if this is to be believed, I in fact BECAME a spambot (SpamMan?, SpamGuy?) the moment I replied to the message.
Isn't the internet just grand? :)

They will even be playing two of the infamous CDi Zelda titles.

It's pretty fun, and for a great cause so check it out if you are into Zelda.

Transformers Animated Season 3 started today, and boy was it crazy.

Sari is teh TRANZFORMERZ LULz!
I could handle the idea of her being a robot, but a Cybertronian? That is hard for me to swallow, then there is the fact that she abused the All-spark (for the 5,000th time) and upgraded into some kind of uber-Minicon. I was glad to see it backfire, though, not so glad to see Bumblebee get stabbed.

Meanwhile, on Cybertron, the Autobot Elite Guard continues to be the most ineffective and bumbling group of idiots ever, and poor Blurr paid the price for their idiocy. Though, I have to hand it to Shockwave/Longarm Prime, he promptly handled that threat, and is having all communications from the Autobots on Earth filtered through him before the Elite Morons hear them.

Mrgatron is as wily as ever, and Starscream has a lot of mouth for a pretty much defenseless head. Hijacking Omega Supreme to use against the Autobots was pretty cool, though the who endeavor ended with Omega Supreme, Megatron and the Head of Starscream right back where they were end of season 2, lost in space.

The Ratchet side story was cool. It explained the reasons for his closeness to Omega Supreme, and why he had to put Omega to sleep. And gasp! he actually got to do some medi-bot work, always a plus. It was pretty awesome when he upgraded Bumblebee's stingers to battle-grade.

So in conclusion, I enjoyed the premier. I'm not the biggest fan of Sari-bot, but I can get used to it as long as she doesn't become uber-bot best transformer evar!

I am going to assume that Megatron and Starscream will return sometime towards the latter half of the season. Longarm Prime will probably get exposed as the traitor, and since Sentinel Prime is going after Wasp, we might see the birth of Waspinator. Time to settle in and watch this chapter unfold.
