Steven and Wallace share many similarities with Alder and Iris. All of them serve as champion of the same region during the same generation. However there is one significant difference between the two pairs. Their themes.

Wallace and Steven share one theme while Alder and Iris have separate, unique themes that match their personalities. To me, the Hoenn champion theme fits neither of them. It is a generic theme that can be used on anyone who is champion. Alder's theme matches his upbeat personality, while Iris' matches her princessy, girliness. I can't imagine Iris' theme used on Alder. it just doesn't fit. Alder's theme is stolen by Ingo and Emmet because of the precedent from DP when Palmer used Cynthia's theme. Benga is Alder's grandson, so it can be considered a family theme of sorts.

I find the Hoenn theme as a missed opportunity. I love that theme, nonetheless, but I feel as though they could've composed a fancier, more fabulous theme for Wallace. Hopefully if we ever get remakes, Wallace will get a theme that fits him. Steven can keep the original one. He had it first.

This leads me to believe that in Hoenn, all Champions use that one theme regardless of who they are, while in Unova and Kanto, Champions get to use their own personal themes. I am not aware of what happens in Sinnoh, since Cynthia is the only champion depicted, but I am sure Prof. Rowan had his own theme when he was Champion.
