so yeah another rant, it's not Owl City related this time, tho

So I'm studying for the literature exam but we had to read this book called "The Last Time I Saw Mother" and it's just bad

One of the worst books ever
I'm sorry

I mean I acknowledge the effort and time the author put in making that book but really it's just bad

The story itself isn't actually that bad (although the plot wasn't really that interesting) and there was good character interaction whatever and life lessons whatever and it surprisingly has good marriage tips lol

It's just the fact that the way it was written was just no
I've seen twelve year olds write better than that
a badly written book without a remotely interesting plot
its summary is better than what it actually contains

I'm serious, it's all like "Caridad's mother has a secret, she isn't what she think it is big family secret whatever blah blah blah"
the secret is Caridad is adopted, the end

ugh I had to force myself to finish it, seriously if I had a choice I would've stopped reading before I even finished reading the first page because the writing style it's just like no

plus the book gOT A FACT WRONG
I HATE IT WHEN BOOKS GET FACTS WRONG DO YOUR RESEARCH THE PHILIPPINES WAS COLONIZED BY SPANIARDS FOR 333 YEARS NOT 370 YEARS AND DON'T TELL ME THAT SHE "ROUNDED IT OFF" SHE JUST GOT A FACT WRONG IT'S 333 OK IS THAT SO HARD TO REMEMBER 333 YEARS NOT 370

ok I'm good
rant over
I dread having to read that book again

    Holy run-on sentences, Batman!

That book sounds bad. Got any more bad books?

Yeah, it is, but no, I don't have any more bad books at the moment. Oh yeah and lol it turns out with the introduction included "page 1" is actually page 5, my bad

I do have more excerpts though...
    from page 6

"Three used cups stood in the kitchen sink and a small pool of coffee sat at the bottom of each. One last cup and I promised myself to settle down and study. My notes sat in a neat pile at the far end of the kitchen counter, looking at me reproachfully. I emptied the last few drops of milk from the carton. Not enough there. The liquid remained dark brown. I took a sip. Then poured the rest down the sink."

Like seriously, author, DO WE REALLY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR COFFEE, HOW THE HECK IS THAT RELEVANT TO THE STORY? It's full of either run-ons or sentence fragments. The first three pages of the story were all about how she was just sitting in her house and got a letter from her mother that she wasn't expecting. Couldn't she have just said she got the letter and got it over with instead of saying "Oh I'm bored I did all my chores like the laundry and sweeping the spiderwebs that some industrious spider intricately spun from one leaf to another like lace and I don't want to study oh yeah and my friend says that based on my handwriting I'm a secretive person because my b's, l's and t's all have complete closed loops oh yeah and by the way my daughter is growing up she got her hair cut and decided to wear all black instead of colorful clothes and she's going to college and she plays the piano and my husband..." oh dear this is gonna be a long weekend

The worst book I had to read for school was Brave New World. Lamest storyline ever!!!! Now if you excuse me, I'll go ask my 12th grade English teacher for those wasted hours back.

    ... :C
You don't exist to me anymore!

Also that excerpt from The Last Time I Saw Mother doesn't sound that bad. It seems to serve the purpose of showing what kind of thoughts the main character has (if the story is from his perspective). I bet the protagonist has mental problems and murders someone by the end of the book :P If you want to see needless "detail", read Twilight!

I wouldn't normally lump MI in with actual books, but since it's been published at one point, and I printed out a copy of the story, I think it deserves an honorable mention.

“Konnichiwa everybody come in.” said Proffesor Sinister in Japanese. She smelled at me with her gothic black lipstick. She’s da coolest fucking teacher ever. She had long dead black hair with blood red tips and red eyes. (hr mom woz a vampire. She’s also haf Japanese so she speaks it and everyfing. she n b’loody mry get along grate) She’s really young for a teacher. 2day she was wearing a black leather top with red lace and a long goffik black ripped dress. We went inside the black classroom with pastors of Emily the Strong. I raced my hand. I was wearing some black naie Polish with red pentagrams on it.

As for the book being discussed, yeah, doesn't look like I'll be reading Last Time I Saw Mother anytime soon...
@FrostyGaga; Sorry about that. *hugs* As for Twilight, it can do without those unnecesary details. I'm actually indifferent about Twilight; it does have its moments, good and bad.
@Contrary; Wow, the author had so much unneeded or out-of-place info there. Did anyone ask about the teacher's appearance or the nail polish the character is wearing? O_o

^^^ yeah all you guys probably shouldn't read it, especially since it's hard to understand some parts because there are surprisingly a lot of parts with Tagalog words sprinkled into it because the author just loves showing off that she knows Tagalog doesn't she and it doesn't have a glossary or anything; you'd have to figure it out by context clues. Some parts are bearable, though.

    Hah.

I bet your teachers are pestering you to find symbolism in that coffee scene and that clothesline scene.

Anyway, I'm also suffering through an amazingly dull required reading novel. As a matter of fact, I should be reviewing that book right now instead of slacking off in cyberspace.
