This Friend of Mine

Since I've been ranting about One Direction a little too much, I will instead talk about someone else.
Today's topic is my friend Ashley, who I mentioned in a previous post. We've been friends for about four years now. He lives three doors down from me with his parents and older brother. (He also has an older sister and two older half-siblings, but they don't live with him.) He's also got Asperger's like me, but he's much more of a loner. I do spend time with him, and my best friend Frank does too, but Ashley feels shy around others.
Me and Ashley are able to bond over several things. He really loves the anime Yatterman. He goes on the computer to watch subs of it. That time I went to the cosplay dressed as Ken from Gatchaman, Ashley went as Yatterman 1 (Gan-chan, the main male character). (One of his older cousins accompanied him. She was dressed as Doronjo.) We also like to eat ethnic foods a lot. Ashley's taken a liking to Lebanese food in particular (which makes me happy). Ashley likes Italian food as well and eats it a lot. After all, his dad's family is from Sicily. We also like much of the same music. Ashley's favourite is Owl City. He even styles his hair like Adam Young - he's kept it like that since he was 15.
(Ashley styles it similar to Adam in this pic: http://media.focusonthefamily.com/blogmedia/images/plugged-in/AdamYoungOwlCity.jpg. Though Ashley has chestnut brown hair and blue eyes. He gets it from his mum. His dad looks totally different.)
One other thing: Ashley is very good at acting. He's even worked in a theatre. A very small one, but still. He's got an upcoming role - he's playing the prince in a production of Sleeping Beauty.
Ashley is a quiet kid. He spends a lot of his time deep in thought. He gets distracted very easily and sometimes has trouble focusing. He admits that he can be very emotional. I like to comfort Ashley when he has a bad day. I sit with him at lunch. I even walk him home on rare occasions - it's a fairly long walk from school, but his home is a little closer to school than mine.
We also go to the beach quite often, especially during the summer. I have to keep an eye on Ashley since he's not that good of a swimmer. We also play at the park. Sometimes we'll get candy. Ashley loves candy, especially gummi candy. Actually, anything sweet is bound to make Ashley happy.
Other than occasionally performing at a theatre, most of Ashley's after-school time is at home. He doesn't use computers a lot (mostly either to watch Yatterman subs on YouTube or to play games), but he does play video games (including Pokemon). Instead, he likes to lie down on his bed and play with one of the dolls I gave to him. It's of Yatterman 1. (I made the doll myself - it's not official or anything like that. I made a duplicate that I could keep. I intended to keep the original, but Ashley wanted it so badly.) He likes to sing "Vanilla Twilight" to the doll. He tends to go to bed early - usually he's in bed at 9 to 9:30. It's a contrast to some of my friends, who like to stay up late. (Then again, Frank goes to bed early too.)
Unfortunately, Ashley has been the victim of a lot of bullying, especially from the popular kids. The fact that he's really emotional doesn't help. I sympathise with him, since I get bullied too.
Ashley's parents think that I'm doing him a favour by giving him time to spend away from home. They are worried about him since they hope he can be independent. It's going to be hard getting Ashley to be fully independent, but he tries. And he does appreciate me being nice to him. I'm glad to have Ashley as my friend.
(Ashley gave me permission to share this.)
