Mythical 'Genwunners'

I may be totally off the mark here... but as far as I can see there is a massive irony floating around many Pokemon forums at the moment.

The amount of thread comments I've seen since the Gen VI announcement that exclaim something along the lines of ''OH GOD JUST WAIT FOR ALL THE GENWUNNERS TO START RANTING ABOUT HOW BAD GEN VI WILL BE'' etc, is probably around a dozen, possibly nearer 20.

The amount of comments I've seen since the Gen VI announcement from a 'Genwunner' denouncing the new Gen and anything else since Kanto...?

Zero.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that these people are out there.

I just think that nowadays, unless I have been coincidentally avoiding the threads in which they gather... they seem to be extremely small in number.

It amuses me that so many people feel an urge to comment on how awful and ridiculous it will be when these people 'inevitably' emerge from the woodwork instead of just making a worthwhile contribution to the thread in which they post.

Maybe one day we will be faced with a situation when the fans who are so certain that a 'Genwunner' is lurking around every corner are a greater source of irritation than the 'Genwunners' themselves.

I have to say, it's heading that way for me.

P.S - I love irony.

P.P.S - I hate the term 'Genwunner'

There are very few gen I purists on Bulba, but they do exist and are obnoxious. I've seen many on other sites such as Tumblr and Youtube.

I'm so glad someone actually said something, it's been pissing me off for ages too. "Genwunners" are really something you see on more mainstream media sites (YouTube, Facebook) or in real life, from people who only remember it from their childhood, not so much on Bulba.

I see them often on YT. Idiotic whiners who are too close-minded to embrace changes that are actually positive for the franchise. I can't stand them, I always end up arguing with them on YT. -.-

However, something that irritates me the most are the double standards of these 'genwunners'. Ice cream Pokémon is wrong, garbage bag Pokémon is wrong, but magnet Pokémon, rock snake Pokémon, whatever the hell Muk is, Jynx, Mr.Mime, Porygon, Machop ... etc... are okay? Seriously? It's okay in gen I but awful in gen V? Ugh.

I see these people mostly on YouTube, as said, and on GameFAQs. I don't know why I bother to lurk on that site, since everyone on there is an idiot, but the drama that goes on there can be funny when I'm bored. You're right; there aren't many of those that trash new generations on here. I've noticed that "Genwunners" are mostly on sites that aren't focused primarily on Pokemon.

@Robin Storm; Genwunners are people who only like Gen. 1 of Pokemon. (Green, Red, Blue, Yellow) They are obnoxious. :I

At this point most of those people frustrated with the direction the series has gone wouldve left by now. It's outside the Pokemon fandom that this becomes an issue.

Though I find a lot more people who just hate on everything new... for a while. And then they realize that it's not so bad, but they never realize that they're trapped in a cycle of slapslapkiss.

The thing that's most annoying about Genwunners isn't their preference for Gen 1. That's not bad at all. It's normal to have favorites.

The difference between "Genwunners" and "People who like Gen 1" is that the latter isn't ridiculously close-minded.
