Ok so I have only battled online 5 times. I was destroyed in every battle. Truly demolished. I've been playing the games since Red and Blue but not until after my first run through of White had I ever felt the desire to get involved in competitive battling. Needless to say, I have a lot to learn. I started by wrapping my head around EVs and IVs. Having successfully EV trained 6 Pokemon so far, I feel quite comfortable with it. I figure the next step should be to learn about building a decent team. I have one main issue with this... I'm reluctant to ever build teams in which there are 1 or more Pokemon that I don't actually like. You know? For example, I'm not gonna build a team with a Metagross in it just because its very useful to have one. It's not one of my favourites therefore it won't ever be considered. I'm hoping to get some responses from people who have a similar approach, and only build teams with Pokemon they really like - just because they do, not for their strength (obviously I realise some people choose favourites because of how strong they are). Having rambled on for longer than I intended... basically the point of this blog is this - Can anyone recommend any YouTube videos, blogs, websites where I can begin to educate myself on how to build a decent, competitive team with my favoured Pokemon?

As an example, here are the six Pokemon who (at least until October) would be my ideal team - Stoutland, Arcanine, Dragonite, Espeon, Blastoise and Mightyena. (Before anyone says... yes, I know that Mightyena is AWFUL. It pains me.)

The amount of thread comments I've seen since the Gen VI announcement that exclaim something along the lines of ''OH GOD JUST WAIT FOR ALL THE GENWUNNERS TO START RANTING ABOUT HOW BAD GEN VI WILL BE'' etc, is probably around a dozen, possibly nearer 20.

The amount of comments I've seen since the Gen VI announcement from a 'Genwunner' denouncing the new Gen and anything else since Kanto...?

Zero.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that these people are out there.

I just think that nowadays, unless I have been coincidentally avoiding the threads in which they gather... they seem to be extremely small in number.

It amuses me that so many people feel an urge to comment on how awful and ridiculous it will be when these people 'inevitably' emerge from the woodwork instead of just making a worthwhile contribution to the thread in which they post.

Maybe one day we will be faced with a situation when the fans who are so certain that a 'Genwunner' is lurking around every corner are a greater source of irritation than the 'Genwunners' themselves.

Thanks for the shiny dratini. I've had some fun training it for a little while now. I realised however, that it doesn't have the Multiscale ability.
I should've probably asked whether the dratini had the ability or not when I met you at your grandfathers house and you handed it over but I was too excited about the whole situation so it must've slipped my mind.

I don't even want to think about how long I spent in that White Treehollow, man. There's no food or drink in there. I had a few Fresh Waters for my Pokemon but nothing for me. Have you any idea how degrading that was? I was talking to one of the nurses in there and she told me that you don't let them leave for some fresh air or anything. You don't even let them sit down.

So, I'm trying to hatch a Female, Naive Poochyena with the Alert to Sounds characteristic. Obviously I'm aiming for 31 EVs in Speed but I know it can take a while.

The main hurdle is hatching one with the correct characteristic. I've got a Female Naive Poochyena in the Day Care holding an Everstone so roughly every 2nd hatch is the correct Nature but so far, after around 40 eggs the 'Alert to Sounds' Poochyena has remained elusive.

Am I missing something, or is there genuinely nothing more I can do to try and manipulate the characteristic?

NHL 13 is kind of doing an ok job in keeping me occupied during my free time but the days seem to be passing in slow motion towards the release of Black2 and White2.

I have completely exhausted all angles of Black and White. I'm EV training my 6 favourite Pokemon but I don't want to raise them beyond around level 30 'cause I'd have not much use for them in the new games if I did.
