I just realized that shipping in Pokémon kinda hurts. I mean, (I dunno if this is just my pessimistic tendencies taking over) most probably, nothing will ever be canonized. Like what's been said, Pokémon is about the relationship of people and Pokémon, not people and other people. We torture ourselves with hint discussion and fanart and fanfics, but deep down inside, we know it's probably not gonna happen. It's all shiptease to tie us emotionally to the franchise. It's all bittersweet.

This is the chain that holds Pokemon shipping back. No ships will be canonized ever, because the player character was meant to be a blank slate and tying him/her to another person romantically kind of ruins that. This is all that holds the Pokemon shippers back, and frankly I am thankful for that.

One of the writers flat explained how there will never be shipping in Pokemon even though other anime around the same target demographic use shipping.
