Characterization

ARGH. I have characterization problems. I can't characterize any character properly. Not Artemis Fowl, not Jaime Lannister, not the Rockets......heck, not even Eragon, who is a pretty one-sided character. They always end up OOC, no matter how hard I try.

This is why my fanfics suck so much. Grr. How many have I deleted? Abandoned? How many plot bunnies have I left to rot and die in my head?

All because of my characterization problems.

So, help me? What can I do to improve my characterization? Any advice?

Sometime's it's difficult working with characters other people created. I'd suggest asking yourself, "what would this character do in this situation?" Forget about what you want to happen, think of what should happen.

Simplest solution, not necessarily the best: go for OC, then.

There's one problem with that. I hate OCs.

Hmm, maybe not the OCs themselves, but the fact that they're always done so horribly. I can't remember a single OC I even remotely liked. And OC-centric fics......ugh.

It would kill me to add to the fuckery of OC-making.

But, OCs as in original characters in original stories? I'm more than willing to give it a shot. I just have to get my lazy ass moving.

Thanks, everyone. I shall heed all your advice. I believe, though, that my biggest hurdle right now is laziness. Haha. :)
