Eggs: From Side Business To Serious Business

Pokémon eggs first showed up in Gen II -games, Gold and Silver. I don't recall ever bothering to hatch any other egg than that of Togepi's (unless there was some other story-related egg). Sapphire went the exact same way. Then, Pokémon White happened.
Recently I have been egg-obsessed. In Platinum because I need to hatch enough eggs in order to buy a statue to my manor. That actually feels like work too, since the eggs take an eternity to hatch. Yes, I did count the steps required to hatch a Buneary, but that 5555(?) steps takes long when you barely have to move anywhere. This leaves me riding a bike up and down over and over.
Least in White hatching happens almost accidentally. Only problem is that you end up with a bunch of extra Pokémon, especially if you're trying to breed that One Specific Pokémon That Has Nature X And Moves YZ. I'm also trying to get all-female Pokémon, which feels quite insane after spending three hours trying to hatch a female Scyther with the ability Technician. Good Arceus, just getting a female first took its sweet time.
I did get that Scyther eventually, though I now possess about 15 Scythers I have no use for. Same deal with Purrloins and Poochyenas.
Maybe I should seriously get into the egg-trade that I've heard about and make someone else's day with all the eggs?
