Smoking is Evil

I using a blog to vent again, so here it goes.

I grew up around smokers all my life. My parents did it, anyone they dated smoked, friends of theirs smoked, family members, and so on. I had to deal with it. I usually just ignored it since I was used to it. Two years ago though I moved to where I live now, New York. My mom is my only family who moved with me from our previous state, Arizona. We moved in with my grandparents to save money, and they don't allow smoking. My mom who moved about two months before since I had to finish the school year, quit cold turkey when she came here. She hasn't smoked a cigarette for two years.

Since she quit and I haven't been around the smoke constantly for two years, I can now easily smell the smoke and being around it is worse than it was before. The smell is disgusting and the smoke is more choking. In December my mom started dating a guy, they became serious, and she moved in with him. She said she wouldn't date a smoker, but she made an exception for him so she started off with electronic cigarettes, which despite me not liking the idea, I allowed them due to the lack of smoke and nicotine. Now though she's back to smoking real cigarettes. She says she going to quit but she's moving in with my other grandmother who smokes, because she broke up with her boyfriend. Either way she is living with a smoker which increases the temptation.

To add on to the problem she has lost a lot of weight recently, and smoking causes weight loss. She is sick and doesn't take it seriously that she needs to go to the doctor. She weighs five more pounds than me last we checked, with the smoking she'll probably weigh less than me.

I really hate cigarettes, and drugs in general. I've never tried smoking or any drug. The only drugs that I have ingested into my system are medical ones that I needed. My mom smoking after two years of being clean really sickens me. Lately all she does is make me depressed when all I wish I could do is smile.

I understand why smoking would seem evil because of your life experiences, but really it's just a very bad habit--just like I would say nail-biting is--and not exactly evil.

I'm sorry this is happening to you though, stay strong and try to lead by example for your mom.

I'm really sorry to hear that... It's too bad that she started again after that she was able to stay away from it for two whole years. That takes some real willpower, as I can imagine how hard it must be to stay away from smoking.

I'm sorry that you have to go through this, but try to take some initiative and show your mother that you really, really don't want her to smoke! Don't make anything stupid or drastic, like throwing away her cigarettes or something, 'cause lots of my friends have done that with their parents' cigarettes, and that resulted in nothing more than arguing. Come up with some other way to show her your disapproval of smoking, like a way that really shows your concern for her.

I'm really not the one to talk though, as I've never experienced this before, and really do not know how to handle a situation like this either... Regardless, I'm still wishing for the best for the two of you, and I hope that one she'll put those cigarettes away for good! :)

I really hate cigarettes as well, it seems nearly everyone around me either has smoked, still smokes or will smoke in the future and I just don't understand why people do this to themselves, it's disgusting and can hurt others. I have seen these electronic ones but no.. I do not agree with them, I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually some sort of mind trick to convince people to actually go back to smoking, or had some chemical somehow inside it anyways to get them back to the real one (I am sure I have seen some sort of smoke coming from it, and them blowing smoke, explain that one).

I just wish everyone would stop smoking, seriously I have a large family and those who are over 18 about 90% of them smokes, even the ones who said they quit have gone back to it. Seriously if they all kill themselves when I am 50/60 because of it, and leave me with not much of a family I am seriously going to kick some asses when I get to heaven (Also, cigarettes are also the reason my two grandfathers are dead).

I have tried convincing some of them to not smoke, but they don't listen anyways. Aleast half of my new friends (Meaning aleast two old friends.. Wait no only one does it) from the church don't smoke currently, some used to but I haven't seen anyone smoking much (Except one person, she's got one of those electronic ones I think, I have seen it occasionally). Don't know if it's because these friends are from a church or not but aleast not everyone in my life does it.

We all hate smoking, but it won't go away since a South Park episode made a point of how important smoking is to humanity's history and how it made our country grow.

The moment she told me she was smoking again and said she was going to quit again I told her to give me the pack she had out. I spent Sunday and Monday with her, and took several chances to show my annoyance. She knows I'm mad, but she doesn't care. I wish I could throw out every cigarette and destroy them.

I hate electronic cigarettes too, but I still find the electronic better than the real thing. To me it's the best alternative as compared to my brother who doesn't like cigarettes, but does chew tobacco as an alternative.

E-cigarettes have nicotine FYI, it's just has less chemicals overall (but is still addicting). I'm sorry to hear about your mother. My mother went through several bouts of quitting and starting again (she's now quit for good). Sometimes it takes time, and support. Have you tried getting her to the doctor but not mentioning cigarettes to her (it might make her more angry)? If you can get her there without talking about cigarettes is could help possibly.

She was losing weight before she started smoking again, but the smoking will make it worse, and I've been telling her to call for weeks. Not all of them. The ones she was using didn't.
