The thing about introducing a new type is that it's extremely volatile to do so. The current type matchups are very skewed and imbalanced, yes. But introducing a new type is bound to create more problems than it will solve.
For example, the rumor that "Fairy is weak to Steel"? That just won't work. Steel's lack of offensive capability is the point. Steel is primarily a defensive type-THE defensive type-and lacks offenses to compensate. In other words, if you make Fairy weak to Steel, that defeats the point.
Fairy Pokemon are probably going to see a lot of usage as Dragon counters. Which will make Scizor's Bullet Punch (if the rumors are true) even deadlier, thus resulting in an even more skewed metagame.
And the rumor that Fairy beats Dark? That's bound to create even more problems. Unlike Dragon, a typing with weak points that are few and far between, Dark is already checked by common Fighting and Bug moves. This makes an additional weakness wholly unnecessary.
My point was that this is a sign that Gamefreak obviously doesn't care about the metagame. They just want a new gimmick to ride on.
