I'm stuck in a tough situation. I want to buy Sonic Heroes because I heard that it's one of the best 3D Sonic games out there, yet it would be awkward to tell my family that I want it. A couple years back, I bought Sonic Unleashed, it sucked. I wanted to murder that game because of how difficult it was. So now, well...

For this, try to think of a game that you extremely hate, but then all of the sudden, you want a different game from the same series, yet everyone you know absolutely thinks you hate the entire series. That's basically what's going on.

    Here's one simple explanation: Sonic Heroes is part of the Dreamcast Era. If you've played Sonic Generations (or heard about it enough) to understand the terms, you'll be fine.

    Also, try explaining to them that hating on one game is not hating on an entire series. Compare it to hating on one episode of a TV show season.

    The funny thing is, I really didn't like Sonic Heroes, but loved Sonic Unleashed (and I'm a long-time fan from the Genesis era). XD

    Both of those games are different enough that it's understandable to not like one but be interested in the other. And aside from that, sometimes people give series they previously didn't like another chance and end up liking other games in it, so I think your family might understand it from that perspective.
