If Ruby and Sapphire remakes were made...

Rate this Entry
Something I notice that never gets mentioned at all with Ruby and Sapphire remakes is if they made them would they not have to take place during the same/similar timeline as the events in the Kalos Region? All the remakes we have gotten so far share the same timeline with that generations main perspective games...

Ruby/Sapphire with FireRed/LeafGreen

3 years later...

Diamond/Pearl with HeartGold/SoulSilver

One thought of mine is that prehaps trading between X/Y and a possible Ruby/Sapphire remake is that maybe they could use the trading method they had with Gen 1 and Gen 2 which involved the usage of the Time Capsule. I know its probably a long stretch but a good thought nonetheless.

To be honest if in the future we do get games related to the Hoenn Region I much rather them be sequels (or just something else) than a remake to be quite honest.

What do you guys think about all this? Please everyone feel free to comment :)

I think all we know is that XY apparently take place after BW, based on some NPC comments. But regardless, implementing a time capsule system again wouldn't be a problem.

But I know I definitely want remakes, although the popular opinion around seems to be sequels. RB and GS had proper remakes, so I want Hoenn to get the same.

I think that, if remakes are going to be a thing, the events of XY took place at the same time OR right after/before the events of RSE and FRLG. Unless there is something in XY that goes against this scenario.

I'd imagine that they would take place in the same time, since the other remakes take place at the same time of that respective region's generation, though, it'd probably make more sense for them to be at different times, as well, since Gen VI does have a lot that it would need retconned or explained to make sense of if it takes place at the same time as Gens I and III.

Is it ever confirmed when Gen V takes place? Because an NPC mentions the Team Plasma incident being a while back. If Gen V is after Gens II and IV, then X and Y couldn't possibly take place during Gens I and III.

Where exactly does XY fit into the timeline anyway?

At any rate, they don't really take the timeline into account anymore. I mean you can trade between BW1 and BW2 without any kind of in game explanation, I don't think they care anymore. Also, we don't really know for sure where RSE fits in the timeline, there's nothing that specifically relates to the other games.

So far from what I've seen in my game one of the guys (one of the breeder dudes) inside the Lumiose City Pokémon Center near Team Flare's Cafe says the following...

"Have you heard of Team Plasma? Apparently it was making news a while back in the Unova Region..."

and also a hiker on Route 10 (on your way to enter Geosenge Town) talks about Corless saying...

"A few years back, this really strange dude named Corless told me that these big stones emit some kind of special energy."

I don't know if there are other references inside the game but these are the only two I noticed/remembered.

    No, they really wouldn't.

Also, there isn't any hard evidence that RSE and FRLG took place at the same at the same time. And evern if they did, remakes of RSE are not forced to take place at the same time as XY.

Hoenn is more an isolated region, unlike the other places. Mentions of Hoenn had only been brief, and if we try to calculate the timeline, the only thing we know is that in Gen5, Team Aqua and Team Magma had already disbanded (since there are two ex-grunts living together in Iccirrus City in B2W2), so at least RSE takes place before Gen5. If Gen6 comes after Gen5, then if we were to get RSE remakes, we're likely to get sequels IF they take the timeline events into account

I don't think that the timeline is much of an issue. It's more of a fan theory more than anything concrete. It is based on dialogue from the games, but that's still more of a fan theory. I definitely would prefer for R/S to get remakes. The first two generations had remakes, so it wouldn't feel right if R/S didn't get remakes. Sequels sound nice for older fans, but for kids who might not have played R/S when it was released, it might be strange to have sequels for ten year old games.

I don't see why remakes would HAVE to take place at the same time as X and Y.

I haven't played the games of Gen I- III so I don't even know what time capsule is :P
But, I would much rather we have XY sequels with great focus on Hoen, then to have generic remakes of RSE. GF was able to find a way to bestow a Kanto feel on XY so it should not be a problem for them to focus on Hoen in XY sequels/ 3rd game.

@Ranger Jack Walker; I said IF they take the timeline events into account. Also, IF GameFreak doesn't care about timelines, then sure, why not pure remakes instead of sequels?

Even though I do not know about that trading thing you mentioned, it sounds like a fun idea. And I want remakes of those games. Hoenn and Sinnho is the only regions I have not explored in a game.
