I Don't Even Know How This Happened

Today I had a meeting with the chair of the Education/Teaching Program at my college, to see about getting into the teaching program. So I walk into her office, and she does the normal greetings and everything, and when she reads my name again off the paper, she's like, "Oh, is that Russian?" And I answered yes because, well, it is.
After that, she asks for some of my history and stuff, and then she asked me "how long have you been here?" I thought she just meant how long I've lived in the state of my current residence, so I was like "about six years or so."
Well, then we had some discussion about how to get into the program and all that, and somehow she got onto the topic about Russian immigrants, and was telling me all about this town nearby that has a lot of them. She wondered if I knew that, which I replied I didn't. And then she was really surprised. So then she asked me, "What part of Russia are you from?"
...What.
I was really confused, and I just kind of sat quiet for a bit, mumbling "Uhh..." I mean, like, I had NO CLUE what she was talking about.
I think she finally got why I was so baffled, and then asked me, "Were you born in this country?"
"Yeah."
Then it donned on her.
See, for some reason, she thought I was ACTUALLY FROM RUSSIA. I... I don't even know how or why. Like, do I talk weird or something, with an accent? That shouldn't even be possible, but... Do I have a Russian look to me? XD
So after she realized, she started laughing and then told me to tell my parents and grandparents about the Russian Orthodox Church and Ukrainian bakery that are a couple towns down.
It was weird. But amusing, I must admit. This is actually the second time it's happened to me. I just don't get it, LOL.
