I'm a cat person, cats are far superior to dogs in every single way - fact! So why is it that all the cat based Pokemon suck with no exceptions, and the majority of the dog based Pokemon are great?
First off, even simply looking at types the dogs have the advantage - only two out of five are Normal type, compared to three out of four for the Cats. Design wise, except for Snubbull, the dog Pokemon are at least passable - Lillipup is debatable, but when the cat Pokemon are broadly disfigured messes - and get even worse when they evolve.
I don't think I've ever had a cat Pokemon in my team, gimmicks like Meowth's Pay Day have never justified the fact they just aren't useful. The only thing going against the dogs is their relative rarity (though that's flipped on its head with Poochyena in RSE) - which is probably because the games are very set on making sure that it's very hard to get the other two elements besides your starter.
Purrloin is at least not normal typed, but it's design is bland and Dark is hardly the most important type - I personally just teach Crunch/Bite to a non-dark type, it usually is enough for the few situations where you actually need Dark offensively.
So please people who decide the Pokemon - get me a useful cat in Gen VI. All of the good ideas for cats seem to end up being foxes or lions - and we're left with a huge disadvantage in the battle for cat vs dog supremacy in Pokemon that doesn't reflect the clear victory cats have in real life.
