So today I turned sixteen years old. As an early present over the week-end, my mom got me a puppy to be a little companion for me, whom I named Stucco, as I detailed in a blog the day I first got him. But today was the big day. I woke up to like eleventy billion notifications on this here site, and then I had the idea to go through the school day with as girly and fruity a balloon as possible. I managed to get a black-and-pink "Sweet 16" balloon complete with sparkles and tiara, and my mom got some sugar cookies to distribute to my friends, too.
So school was okay. I got more birthday wishes than I thought I would. I remembered to say thanks when I got one. I did a recital of Act 5, Scene 5 of Julius Caesar, completely went "screw it" and gave up on a test in Physical Education, and picked up where my Biology class left off yesterday and finished Gattaca, which is a damn good movie.
After school, I went home and crash-dove into a depressed slump (I'm really sorry for being such a depressed piece of shit today, @Taliesyn;), but then snapped out of it when my grandmother arrived and I started opening presents. Gramma got me David Bowie's new album, The Next Day, bringing my total of David Bowie albums randomly amassed over the past few months without me buying any of them to four, along with 100 dollars. My aunt/cousin got me two guitar stands (one for the family's acoustic guitar, and one for my electric guitar), a music stand, and an electric guitar tuner. My mom got me a super-special Wizard of Oz box set with out-takes and other goodies that I didn't know existed (which is cool), a vintage Fender velvet-lined box for all my various guitar-related doodads (which is super dorky cool), and an issue of the Tampa Herald-Tribune from July 1969, with the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon as the front-page story (which is holy cow SUPER MEGA DORKY COOL). My maternal grandparents got me sixty dollars.
But the coup de grace was what my mom's friend Jeff got me.
I GOT THAT BAD BOY
AND HOLY CRAP DOES IT SOUND COOL
IT'S HEAVY AS HELL, DUDE
IT, LIKE, SNARLS WHEN I PLAY IT
And then I went to record store and bought Mastodon's Blood Mountain and Atoms for Peace's Amok. So this birthday went from okay to crummy to AWESOME. I want to thank everyone here who gave my birthday wishes, too. I had no idea so many people cared that I'm sixteen now. :'3 I'm sorry I couldn't be more enthusiastic when I thanked all of you personally. That was during the "crummy" stage of today. But it's all good now, 'cause I'm now a hundredaire who owns really old stuff and a guitar that sounds like a wild boar.
