My Dad Died Last Night

I just feel like putting this out here, because I feel kinda crappy.

So, rewind to 2007. My parents are divorced. It's been that way for almost as long as I can remember. My dad met this woman who was going through tough times. My dad offered to house her and her two daughters, ages 7 (or thereabouts) and 13 (or thereabouts). We've got roommates.

We got along pretty good, for the most part. They were practically family. It was the closest I'll ever get to having a sister. 'Cept they weren't related to me, so you can imagine the sort of things my ten-year-old mind was thinking about regarding the 13-year-old roomy.

*clears throat akwardly* ANYWAY, so one day my dad goes on a trip. This is usual of him, because back then he worked on a cargo ship. He was typically gone for about five months (or thereabouts). Whenever dad left, my brother and I just stayed at our mom's house full-time until dad came back. At the time of this particular trip, we had gerbils. So we trusted this woman with our gerbils for a few months. Not a big deal, really. They were responsible enough.

My dad gets back. My brother and I return. Apparently the woman and her daughters had ditched us. They stiffed dad on that month's rent and left a couple days before he came back from the ship. (Don't worry about the gerbils, they were fine. They're both dead now, but that's irrelevant.) So dad and us were pretty bitter about this ever since.

Now, last year. 2011. The woman and her daughters have been on their seperate way for a number of years. We'd pretty much all but put them behind us since then. Apparently she hadn't. I guess she was bitter that dad never seemed "interested" in her as more than a roommate in need, or some other dumb crap like that.

Now, recap. A stereotypically ignorant American teenage girl in the 21st Century. What do you think she did alone? You guessed it. On top of that, she filmed it with her cell phone. And on top of all that, she did it with other teens, and filmed it. You know that name for it, it's called "sexting". She did it. Apparently she didn't want to carry the burden of that little memory card full of sexual who-the-hell-knows-what. So she stuffed it in dad's dresser when their family ditched us.

Back to the present. That girl is now sixteen. Old enough to press legal charges with the consent of her parent. Her mom consented. She placed child pornography charges on my dad. Police come into the house (my brother and I weren't there) and ask if they can search. They take the computer, the Wii, a bunch of other stuff, and some more stuff. (We haven't gotten any of it back since then, by the way.)

One of them finds the memory card. You can't really blame them for coming to the conclusion that my dad was filming her doing stupid teenager-type stuff. The trail date has been set.

Now my dad is facing really serious charges. All of us (my brother and I, dad, grandma, our uncle, etc.) are thinking of how they can convince the court that dad didn't do anything. I figured there wasn't a whole lot to worry about, since when one thinks about it:

- There are tapes of this girl and her friends doing slutty-teenager-type-crap
- My dad isn't anywhere to be found (or heard) in any of the videos or pictures

Either my dad filmed them and hid the tape, or she filmed themselves and used dad as a scapegoat to press the burden of that little memory card on, hiding it in his dresser where he wouldn't find it for a considerable while. Which one do you think is more likely?

I thought so. Moving on.

So I'm not too worried about this whole thing, but dad is worried. A lot. Eventually, it gets to a point where he won't go anywhere alone. According to the doctors, he became paranoid, thinking people were monitering him, watching his every move. He just didn't show it around my brother and I.

He's perscribed medication to suppress his paranoia. Yesterday, he accidentally (I'm pretty certain it was accidentally) overdosed. He died a few hours later.

Thanks a whole fucking lot, former roomies. The seven-year-old had nothing to do with it, so never mind her. The now-sixteen-year-old bitch, on the other hand, she crafted this lie. She's the one who filmed herself being a jackass, she's the one who hid that damned memory card, and she's the one who came up with the utter lie that dad had forced her to do those things. Never mind the fact that (from what I've heard) she was being ordinarilly pleasant-acting and being ordinarilly horny, like every idiot in those kinds of videos. I guess she's just a good actor? And never mind all the facts that I've already stated. No, this was clearly my dad's fault.

Fucking bitch. I'm not blaming her directly, but I can thank her for playing a big part in fucking up my family life AND KILLING MY DAD. I wish I could meet her one last time so I could kick her in the face. If I was religious, I would pray that she get hit by a car. Hit by a car and survive with broken bones and a concussion, but still. You have no idea how shitty I feel right now.

Masochism is stupid, so don't worry about me. I'll get through this. I'm really just more angry than sad. I just hope I could somehow get back at that bitch. Smack her with a pipe or something.

I felt this way when my grandmother passed away a few months ago. I guess it's because people don't know what else to say but still want to show they care and really do hope for the best.

Anyways, I hope you'll be able to manage. Your father will always be in your memories. <3

This comment made me smile. I usually don't use this "smiley" smiley, but... :)
