Mom, are you happy now that you took away my game?

Rate this Entry
After weeks of bickering she finally took away my Pokemon Black 2 game. She wouldn't just listen to whatever I had to say and repeatedly said I should be ashamed for playing pokemon games.

So Mom, are you happy now that you took away my game? Do you feel satisfied taking away what I like and enjoy? Are you happy now that you have it your way? Always taking away things I got myself, and giving me what you think is "proper" - can't you just let me keep at least what I bought? You don't allow me to keep it as a keepsake?

And this is just ridiculous - I'm not some kid who needs guidance on every single thing and I know what I'm doing so just friggin leave me alone!!

    That's awful! How old are you, anyway?

    Tell her that there are people in their 20s, 30s, and older who love Pokemon and play the games!

    Tell her that if she's gonna take your games, then she's buying them. Make her pay you back the money you spent on them.

    @Contrary; Exactly ;_;
    @Karis; Thanks, but this may be the end
    @UnovaCastaway; 24, but the point is no matter what, it seems she's just not willing to listen no matter how I try to explain. She goes "So? Are you trying to say you were doing the right thing by gaming and I should parade around my 24-year-old daughter is playing pokemon?" Really, no use. She's taking everything in her way and no matter how illogical she is, she won't listen... ;_;

    No one should be told what they like or should be like... I know exactly how you feel... :/

    What a horrible thing for her to do! Obviously you didn't do anything wrong, so she has no right to take away your game. You are right and she is wrong. It makes me sad that some parents are this mean. My mom would never take away something that meant so much to me.

    When you live on your own, you don't ever have to speak to her again.

    I'm so sorry to hear about that. Your Mom sounds pretty rude, especially with telling you to be ashamed for playing these games. She shouldn't have a problem with your hobbies as long as it isn't hurting anyone. There are people even older who plays the games and it isn't a problem. While my parents haven't have a problem with the fact that I play Pokemon, I have had experienced with people telling me that I should be ashamed of doing it and telling me that I should give it up, so I can understand how frustrating you must feel. I hope that it works out and you're able to get your game back.

    Excuse me for the language I'm about to use...

    *ahem* THAT BITCH. I can't ever think of a time when my parents tried to take something that I extremely loved away from me. Whenever I got into some sort of fandom that they didn't really expect for me to like *coughMyLittlePonycough* I thought they would hate me because I was supposedly too old for it. Turns out, they really just didn't care and they just went along with it. But seriously, Pokemon was actually a REALLY good thing for me. When I was a lonely anti-social recluse about two years ago, I met some other Pokemon fans and I eventually grew to like them for more than our similar interests.

    Also, you're Twenty fucking Four. You're a fucking adult, tell her that. It's your decision, its not like one game will make your life go completely downhill.

    UGHH, really? You're only about a year younger than me! I know how it feels. It does suck when your parents keep you on a short leash at this age. I know my mother makes unrealistic demands for me to contact her at least once a day when I'm away from home and is terrified of me driving late at night (even though I've done it many times and survived).

    She calls my geeky interests "stupid cartoon stuff" and is pretty much an old timer who doesn't understand too much about nerd pop culture. I tell her it's part of my identity and it helps me make friends with likeminded people. (because I've been heavily encouraged to make friends for years thanks to my social awkwardness from Aspergers) I think that's why she lets that slide a little.

    Seriously, though, tell her that there are people much older than you who play the Pokemon games and love it. Also, if you get the game back, tuck it away in your bedroom and play after you go to bed. (I've done that many times, and it helps me fall asleep faster too.)

    An "improper" game targeted partly at children is probably more entertaining and higher-quality than whatever crap she likes.

    Her daughter's a gamer. Nothing wrong with that, seriously. I'm a gamer in my 30's, and I have made friends with many adult gamers over the years in the real world as well as online, many of whom have played at least one Pokemon game over the years. True story.

    Forty-seven percent of all players are women, and women over 18 years of age are one of the industry's fastest growing demographics.
