I saved a worm from drowning

It had rained all day long, so there were puddles everywhere.

I found an earthworm squirming in a puddle, desperately trying to get out.

If I left it there, it would've drowned.... Even if the water dried, the worm was on hard concrete asphalt, so it would've died from too much sun.

So I used a dead leaf to pick up the worm and put it in the small garden in front of my apartment.

I saved a life :)

    Yay!

I would have been too grossed out by the sight of a worm to try and save it.

^I like worms, so I would've just grabbed the little dude. Then I would've watched it in my hand for a bit before finding it a hopefully safe place.

I'd done something similar with a lightning bug before. It was upside down in my sink, in a spot of water, so before anything happened to it, I turned it over, let it crawl on my finger, and set it on its way.

The Early Bird will just get him tomorrow. It was nice of you to try, though.

Really, the worm probably would have been happier if you'd stepped on him. Rather than be slowly fed piece by piece to ravenous baby birds.

Worms breath through their skin, as long as it was able to reach the water surface, it would have been fine.

I didn't know worms drowned like that. I just assumed they liked going for a swim. Why else would they be out there D:

I thought they liked the moisture and that they could have gotten oxygen from the water since they breath through their skin.

EDIT: Apparently its good you touched it with the leaf considering what it was up there doing :B

@The Outrage; Worms do breathe with their skin, but they can't breathe underwater. They can't get oxygen from water ;_; When the soil gets wet, it's like being underwater for them so they leave the soil to breathe. So in short, they're running away to survive. Why they get stuck in puddles... I don't know.

I thought about picking it up with my bare hands... but... XDD it squirmed so hard that it was hard to even touch...
