Hello. I'm a Unova trainer name Christian Woods. This is the first of a new series of rants that i will poast whenever i come up with something. sometimes there will be several per day, or there may be gaps in time as i have an iffy wifi connection. Ok, feel free to comment, i want oppinions on these rants. Please note. I do use the word "Shit" as my highest swear, i do not go above it. Anyway, here's the rant.
Have you ever had someone say to you "Oh you can't be a pokemon fan because of this!" to you? well, i'm going to pick apart some of the things that i've been told:
1. "You have to play the games to be a true pokemon fan!"
I'm blind, how am i supposed to play the games if I can't see them? I mean for shit sakes! I'm not any less of a pokemon fan than those who play the games. What if i said that you're not a treu pokemon fan if you don't watch the anime? You'd be angry too!
2. "You have to watch the japanese version of the anime"
i've been told this about several animes, people tell me that i'm not a true anime fan if i watch the english dub rather than the sub. Bull shit! Poppycock! Nonsense! However you want to say it, it's absolute BS. ok, a: I can't understand Japanese. B: as i stated, i'm blind, and also not everybody is able to understand japanese or read the subs while watching the show. it'd be like having a set of headphones on and in the left ear is the sounds of the anime and in the right ear is the english dub that speaks. so you're trying to hear the english translation in the right ear while the japanese dialog as well as the anime sounds and music are playing in the left earphone. You either have to move the left ear piece off your left ear or the right ear piece off your right ear. this means you're only able to hear one of the two tracks which could end up confusing you as to what's happening. i.e. you put the right ear piece on, and you hear a character say "WHAT WAS THAAAAAT!" while in another instance you put the left ear piece on and remove the right ear piece, and a plethora of sounds and quick Japanese dialog is playing, you don't know what the hell is happening, it's confusing. It's pretty much the same for subs, or so my friend Annie says. You have to focus on either one or the other. Aldo about the japanese thing, i'm not saying that japanese is shit, but i'm saying that i just can't understand it, so i sinse i rely on sound, i use the dialog to help me along in the show as well as the sounds and background music, and if i can't understand the dialog, then i'm lost.
2.2 - You watch the English Dub of Pokemon dipite the fact that it takes out many of the japanese culture references! you fake fan! no no people, i don't care about the japanese references. They're interesting and all, but i don't watch anime for a lesson on Japanese culture. I watch it for entertainment. If i want to watch an educational TV show, then i'll put on Readding Rainbow or Sessimy Streat. I don't care what a rice ball is, and that's that, but that's just my oppinion. Oh, and you got to remember that 4kids did those edits as ridiculous as they are, so western audiences would be able to understand them. (even though i totaly disagree with the choice of target audience but that's another rant).
3. You have to know both the English and Japanese names for pokemon and People.
The only japanese name i know and i'll probibly butcher it in my spelling is Satoshi and maril (Marill is just an anglocized version of maril i guess, don't know don't care)
4. You can stand the PUSA/TPCI dub! you have no childhood!
Oh yes i have a childhood, hell, if i become a voice actor for Pokemon which is something i've wanted to do sinse i was 7 back in 1999, guess who i'll be working for! That's right, TPCI! If i decided to hate the TPCI dub then it'd be like someone who wants to work at McDonalds deciding that they hate McDonalds, make sense?
and finally 4. You have to collect everything! or you're not a big fan or a fan at all.
Ok, what exactly do you define as a "big fan?" And why must my fandom status be determined by what merchandise i buy? I do have all the original cards pluss a Cacnea, Treecko, Axew and Azumarill card, but i don't usually collect all the cards. my thing is for the anime and movies, got a problom with that?
In all, all that matters is that i'm a pokemon fan, and that i really enjoy it. we all may be fans of different parts of Pokemon, but we all are essentially "pokemon fans." I'm not a less fan, and you're not a less fan. All pokemon fans must stick together, and that's that! thank you. OH and iris, you are such a kid!
