Please explain how the hell "don't worry, it will be over soon" was a rape joke?

Is it because it was said to a girl who sucked badly at the game? I bet this wouldn't be brought up if it were a guy playing the game and the same thing was said to him.

Yeah, because doctors totally don't say that when they are giving kids their shots, and people don't tell squeamish friends that when there's a bloody scene in a movie...

I swear that some people are just unhappy people who want to find offense in everything that that they can, just so that they can make people feel bad about things that they enjoy.

And the best part is: There were already so many better things that Microsoft was actually doing with the Xbox One that can be talked about.

We had a girl playing a game against a guy she was sucking at and the guy saying something like that is a red alarm for a rape joke. I'm not sure if that was the intention of the script writer but it doesn't matter. It's what people perceive it as, yeah it probably was a joke with that intention in my opinion. I know some of my teammates and players from other teams make those jokes all the time. But in any case they should have been more careful, it's extremely offensive in any case.

It was a joke about the game. She sucked at it and he said it will be over soon. It's sad how people, especially feminists, like to make everything a conspiracy against them. :[

Trash talk of any kind isn't sportsmanlike, regardless of rape joke or not.

Trash talk, while not sportsmanlike, is common among a lot of gamers, especially the type that Microsoft is trying to cater to (you know, the stereotypical Xbox Live kiddies who hurl insults throughout online play). You've gotta try to appeal to your audience, especially when you're a company that has already alienated a lot of your potential (more intelligent) audience with restrictive hardware.

You got the phrase wrong. It was "Just let it happen, it will all be over soon".

That sounds a lot less accidental than the phrase you thought it was given that the phrase is a common (immature) rape joke on the internet.

The rest of the dialogue is admittedly a bit...disconcerting.
“I can’t even block!” the frustrated manager said. “You’re too fast!”
“Just let it happen, it’ll be over soon,” the producer advised, drawing groans and laughter from the audience.
“You have a fight stick!” the manager exclaimed.
“Wow, you like this,” the producer remarked as his continued the thrashing.
“No, I don’t like this!” the manager insisted.
I can see the intention. Even if it was accidental innuendo, someone should have caught that. Rather hard to miss. I saw the thing happen live, and judging by the manager's/producer's voices, I'd say it was intentional and honestly don't see how anyone could think it was purely coincidental.

Things are only considered in these ways because it was made into these ways. It was not considered a rape joke by the person who spoke it, so it was not one. It was considered a rape joke by others, so it became one. This is another reason I dislike today's society.

Two things wrong with your statement:

    1) How would you know if he considered it a rape joke? His word? Obviously MS would backpedal on this.

    2) Even if he didn't know it was a rape joke (hard to believe considering how he said it) the writers sure did. The innuendos are painfully obvious to anyone who even so much as understands the basics of internet "humor". Microsoft E3 conferences generally are a giant show written well beforehand. A writer must have intentionally put the rape joke into the script. And yes, there is a rape joke. I don't think it's hard to see it. At all.

"Don't worry, it will be over soon" doesn't sound much like a rape joke. It can be said in so many situations. I can easily picture a mother saying it to her son after he says what they're doing is boring. I believe the only reason it became so clear is because of what I said earlier. I wrote it based on the assumption that it was not intended that way. Yes, we probably won't ever know for sure, but without all the fuss over it, a normal person might not see the joke with ease, while the people who originally started the controversy would now matter what.

    @L.L.; @Haruhi.;
Again, Haruhi got the phrase wrong. Look at my post above. The phrase he actually said is a very popular rape joke. It's "Just let it happen, it will all be over soon."
The words may not say "rape!" but the implication is clear if one knows the origins of that very common (seriously, so common I'm surprised anyone doesn't think it's a rape joke) phrase.

Honestly, I suggest you both read this: Why “Just let it happen, it’ll be over soon” is a rape joke, and extremely problematic
The entire thing, if you don't mind.

Seeing the actual line said and the article certainly clears up why it was took so badly. It is certainly a lot more apparent than the previous line, and probably was said with thought to the phrases origins in a way.
