Why I hate the Wii.

Brought on by the Opinion article in Game Informer. Oh, god, the friggin' Wii is my least favorite game system ever. Don't get me wrong, I love the slew of top-notch first-party games on the thing (Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, DKCR...just...oh my god. Wow.), but the god-awful hardware is just...ugh. Why couldn't we have the Gamecube 2? Just...motion control. It's all terrible, and it's all the Wii's fault. I HATE MOTION CONTROL. More later.

I don't like the Wii a lot compared to the DS and 3DS, but it was still good.

Meh.

Having had all three consoles this gen, I enjoyed them all. Because honestly my Wii was worth it for Smash, Metroid and Galaxy alone. And Wii Golf. Fuck yeah Wii Golf.

Now I can see why the hardware / motion control would be annoying but I enjoyed it because I wasn't tied to it. If I wanted to play a shooter (which the Wii could have done so well but never managed to do sadly) or a sports game like football (where motion controls are impractical), I had my Xbox.

So in short the Wii was enjoyable, but it's a niche system. I wouldn't own it on its own because of its shortcomings (in my opinion), but it's a great addition to a gamer's library.

The Wii is perhaps the most controversial console of all time because of the clash of innovation and "playing safe."
