The Pokemon Stadium 2 R-2 Challenge Cup is really pissing me off right now. Seriously, can't the game give me a break and generate a decent team for once?

So to help cool the rage of frustration, I thought I'd share a unique rule set that I'm sure a lot of people have tried before but probably never tried in serious competition. As the title suggests, this rule set involves the Eeveelutions!

Here's the basic run down:

This is only open to Eevee and its evolutions. Had Leafeon and Glaceon been available in my game, you would be damn sure I would include those two in the rule set. But since we are talking Generation 2 and Pokemon Stadium 2 for the N64, I had to stop with Espeon and Umbreon.

The level restrictions is between Level 50 and Level 60. In a team of three, the total level sum cannot exceed 165. Ideally, you want three Level 55 members for the best balance possible.

You can use items, but each one has to be different.

My plan for this? Well, I don't really have a move set for each of the Eeveelutions I have access to, but I already have the levels determine.

Eevee at L50, Flareon/Jolteon/Vaporeon at L55, Umbreon/Espeon at L60.

The items will be determine based on what their move sets are, but since I don't have their move sets planed at this point... well, yeah, now I'm taking in circles.

In a related topic, if I had Pokemon Battle Revolution and a compatible DS game (or for that matter, a DS), you can bet I would make an Eeveeultion Trainer.:-D

Now that I've gotten through with creating Team Breeder and miraculously won the Little Cup in both R1 and R2 Stadium modes, I feel confident enough to announce my major plan for my Crystal game.

With Team Breeder on hand, I, Zeek Slider, will be breeding and training one of every 240 Pokemon in this generation of the game. Why? Because I’m insane like that!

But that’s not all! I also intend on training all 251 Pokemon for various White City tournaments that I have made in the Rule Edit option! This includes training several Pokemon for the three cups already established in the game itself. Among the new rule sets I’ve added include the beginners’ level Pika Cup and the ever difficult Petit Cup. Unique to these rules is that the Pika Cup actually bans the use of Pokemon evolutions that occur after level 20 (though those that evolve at that level are welcome to participate). The Petit Cup was especially difficult to figure out, as I had to double check the weight of several Pokemon that met the height and evolutionary line requirements. The weight has also been increased slightly to 45 lbs. to allow Shuckle’s ability to enter.

I’ll also be blogging my thoughts and plans for each family when I begin breeding and raising them. What I hope happens is that while I’m raising each member of the evolutionary line, the people who visit my blog will comment on my plans, pointing out weaknesses and strength as it pertains to Crystal and Pokemon Stadium 2. Who knows? Maybe your comments will help change the plan! So stay tuned!

I feel kind of dirty doing that, but at least I'm not doing anything illegal...

But, yeah, 62 Eggs later, I finally hatched a male Scyther. I spent the bulk of last night leveling it up to learn False Swipe and then dumpped him and my female Paras in the Day Care. About two hours later, they produced an Egg.

I was about to release both of the parents back into the wild when I noticed something odd about the Scyther. Apparently, I hatched a Shiny Scyther! I don't know how this happened, as the Ditto I was using is not a Shiny one. I guess the odds were in my favor this time around. So, yeah, I decided to keep the father just because he's a Shiny Pokemon and release the mother.

Once this Paras Egg hatches, then all I have to do is teach the new Baby the moves I want it to learn and Team Breeder can start on its ultimate goal! (Which I'll be posting about soon...)

This was an odd morning.

I didn't have a single Scyther in my boxes, so I participated in today's Bug Catching Contest at the National Park. I didn't care if I won or not as long as I found a male Scyther to breed with my female Paras to get my False Swipe/Spore member of my Team Breeder party.

And all I found were females. Females of every bug that I came across! It was very confusing and rather odd. I did come across a male Venonat, which I caught just because I have yet to come across a male of any other type! And not surprisingly, I won with it too, beating out a Butterfree that came in second.

So I decided to see if any of the Stadium Boxes had a Scyther in it. Sure enough, one of my past lives caught one, but it was female as well. I transfered her over, dropped her off in the Day Care with a Ditto, and waited. An Egg came, and I hatched it.

Female. Tried for another Egg.

Female. Tried again for another Egg.

Female. Tried for yet another Egg.

You get the idea. I'm going to be at this for a while until one of these Eggs produces me a male Scyther. And, man, it's going to cost me too. I might need to train a Meowth soon, as the female Scyther that's popping out these Eggs already jumped 5 levels.

(Wow, that sounds like a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon team.)

Now that I've beaten the Elite Four and Champion Lance in Crystal, I'm going to begin constructing a team of Pokemon whose sole purpose is to catch other Pokemon for breeding. As you can see from the Trainer Card, this team will be made out of three Pokemon. That way, the remaining slots can be left open for the parents and egg.

Here's the team in better detail.

False Swipe, Spore, Cut, Rock Smash

This guy is going to be my go-to Catcher. The tactic is to use Spore to put the target to sleep, False Swipe it down to 1 HP, and then capture the target for the breeding intent. Ironically, I'll need to catch a male Scyther and have him learn False Swipe before I can make this happen, as my current Paras is unable to learn it on her own. Cut and Rock Smash are there to help with navigation and hunting down Shuckles.

Psychic, Future Sight, Fly, Flash

Believe it or not, this Xatu is actally part of my first major breeding chain I have planned out. I want to have a Girafarig that knows both Psychic and Future Sight, which it cannot learn naturally in this current generation. He only has Fly and Flash around for navigation purposes, as I have yet to find a Dunspare still, and I'll probably be spending a lot of time in Silver Cave leveling up parents to avoid risk of moves being deleted.

Surf, Strength, Headbutt, Waterfall

I feel bad for making this guy a HM Slave, but at the same time, I needed a Pokemon that could help me travel caves and waterways for those Pokemon that are native to those areas. I kept debating back and forth if I wanted Whirlpool or Waterfall as its final navigation move, and ultimately went with the one that makes sense. I mean, you rarely see frogs creating a whirlpool in a pond, but I have seen several who love waterfalls.

Thankfully, I have a back-up team member if I ever need to go to the Whirl Islands to find me a Pokemon exclusive to that area of Jotho.

Surf, Whirlpool

Borrowing a page from the Pokemon Rangers, I caught this Mantine with the soul intent of having her in my party for when I navigate the Whirl Islands. Being a native to that area, it only made sense that she would have the ability to combat the whirlpools that block those islands. The rest of her skill set is still up in the air (no pun intended), as I don't plan on making her very battle-ready. I also don't plan on putting Waterfall on her because, let's face it, there's no reason to use it once I've been to Lugia's den.

Well, I better get started then. Too bad it's Sunday, or else I would go straight to the Bug Hunt Contest at the National Park for that Scyther I need. Guess I'll go train my Natu and Poliwag instead.

Upon achieving this feat, I did the insane thing. I let all the Kanto Pokemon go. That's right, my boxes now in Crystal contain only the two Shinies I've found (the obligatory Gyarados and a pink Ratatta) and Johto Pokemon only.

My immediate goal is to finish off the Elite Four before I start my efforts in Ditto-breeding every one of the Kanto Pokemon from my Red, Blue, and Yellow games using a Ditto I just caught (Pokemon 151 by the game's count) for the occasion.

This is my long-term goal for the game: Breed and train all 240 Pokemon from both regions. The legendaries will have to wait, as some of my breeding goals are rather ambitious, while others aren't so high-sighted.

I'll post the details once I've beat the Elite Four. Karen just handed me my first loss, so I'm not feeling very up-and-up right now to go into details with my long-term plans.

However, Crystal is proving to be rather stange with the addition of several new egg moves. I'm curious as to how well Phanpy would handle itself knowing Water Gun, but at the same time I'm releaved to know that Dratini can learn Flamethrower (as well as Ice Beam) as such an early level thanks to the Move Tutor.

I'm very upset to find out that you don't get EXP. from the Battle Tower, as I finally won against two Pokemon there, despite having lost to an unusually fast Snorlax. At least I know now where NOT to train and where to go to test my skills at those levels.

In the meantime, I still have the Elite 4 to go through, but my team is not at a level where I feel comfortable taking them on. For now, I'm dungeon crawling and treasure hunting to help train them. This will be very useful in the search for the final 10 Pokemon to complete the 150 Entry count...

For some reason, when the games came out, I never made it past the Lake of Rage Team Rocket base. Real life just got in the way, and the game sat quietly on the back of my shelf. It was at this point that the initial battery that came with the game died due to under-use, the internal clock, and general aging.

So now I'm officially facing Pryce for the first time in the main game. I've beaten him before in Pokemon Stadium 2 using my old RBY teams, so I know he's an Ice Gym, but I lack any real force against his team short of my Growlithe. I also find it strange that training the little pup is getting more and more difficult, as finding easier Pokemon that output a large amount of EXP is proving to be, well, difficult.

Well, back to the grind for me.

Girafarig, the Remoraid family, and the Mareep family.

The original plan was to restore all three games and trade back and forth between them, with Crystal being the main training and breeding game for however long the battery would last. Since then, I've made several alterations to the plan. For example, I would back up Crystal on the Mega Memory Card for the GBC, noting the time and day that I created the back up so I could sync it with the real life clock if I needed to restore the game.

But now? I'm not sure if it is worth the trouble. I mean, yeah, I'll need a working copy of either one if I want to trade my Onix and turn it into a Steelix with any of the new moves. But that's the only real argument supporting this.

I guess I'll wait to see how far and desprate I get once I've done all that I could do plot-wise in Crystal. And I still have a lot of plot left to go.

Well, it took me a few days, but I’m not at the oddest part in this Pokemon Journey through Johto. I’m sitting here in Goldenrod with Whitney’s Gym battle looming over me like a dark rain cloud. I was lucky enough to get a Smoochum from the Odd Egg the Day Care Man gave me, and I’ve pretty much cleaned out what I could as far as shopping goes.

Carrie, the Mystery Gift girl, gave me an X Accuracy while she got a Pokemon Doll for her room. She gets all the luck. Oh well, we’ll see what we each get next time.

Gabi, my Noctowl, is currently going to take a backseat, having reached its desired level to evolve. Too bad her moveset leaves something to desire.

Currently trying to get the rest of the party caught up to her level. Crisanto, my Bayleef, is closest to her level, but also has a better moveset. Maybe I’ll lead with him when I face Whitney. Ammar, my Phanpy, just learned Flail, so at least now he has another attack he can call upon. Tandy, my Growlithe, could use some help since she only knows Bite and Ember, but against a Normal-type Gym, that really shouldn’t be a big concern for me.

Either way, with the Breeding Center being right there, I’m tempted to just drop off a few of my Pokemon so I could “start over” in some sense, but the Pokemon Breeder in me knows better than to do that. I have to be patient and hope for the best. Just get through the main goal first and then work your way down to the others.

Main goal as of right now? Get the remaining 45 Pokedex entries needed so that I can move Pokemon from White City (Stadium) from my previous lives and begin breeding and training them all like crazy! Oh, and battle Whitney...

But after two hours, I got the game to work. And after another hour and a half, my game still boots properly, with my character currently taking a break at the Violet City Pokemon Center as I debate on if I should trade for that Onix that the kid is offering me or run back to Cherrygrove so I can catch a Phanphy tomorrow morning.
Ah, I miss this game. It's a shame I don't have a DS, or I would try the remakes. I say that now because I know later down the line, I'm going to have to repeat this process again with Gold and Silver.
