My old dog died

Rate this Entry
Bonnie, a collie who looked like Lassie, aged 15 1/2. We got her when I was in 5th grade and she was my 4-H obedience project. She outlived all her peers in the 4-H club.

At least she died of natural causes. As a pro-lifer, I'm totally opposed to putting pets down. It's wrong to murder a friend who loves and adores you.

We still have another collie, a 5 1/2 year old white one with a brown head named Kelly. She's a ditz and always happy. She even was happy with Bonnie's corpse in front of her. Ditz.

I'm sorry for your loss. And I can relate as my family's Airedale Terrier, Phoebe, died 3 months ago at the age of 12. We think she died from a heart attack or stroke or something similar. Because it was sudden, burying her was of course nothing short of difficult for us. As we were burying her, it was raining slightly. Could have used some sun that day. But I will be forever thankful she lived as long as she did, and grateful for the love she gave us.

I hope that you and your family can get past it. I know what it is like to lose a pet you grew up with and it of course isn't as easy as it sounds, but just think of all the good times you and her had together and spend as much time as you can with your other pup Kelly ^_^

I'm so sorry for your loss. I can understand losing a pet that you grew up with. I lost the two dogs I've had since I was seven. They were siblings. Miss Jiff, the girl, passed on almost four years ago, while Chomper, the boy, passed on almost two years ago. It's still breaks my heart that they aren't here, even with how much time has passed. They both had different forms of cancer and we unfortunately had to put them to sleep. I can understand being against that since pets are so loving and they still were full of love even when they were in pain. Given the choice, having them pass on due to natural causes would have been preferable in quite a few ways, but we wouldn't have been able to keep them comfortable and they just would have suffered more if we allowed them to pass on on their own. Trust me when I say that it shatters my heart even more to just type that out, but it is the sad and painful truth.

I do hope that your dog Bonnie is at peace now, that you and your family will be able to get through this difficult time and that your other dog Kelly will be okay. After we lost Miss Jiff, Chomper was sad, constantly looking for her for a couple of weeks and having a sad look in his eyes. Kelly being happy around Bonnie's body after she passed sounds both sweet and immensely heartbreaking at the same time, so she might have a hard time when she isn't around anymore.
