Racing the Mind

Random thoughts I decide to blog about.

  1. UC's Y Adventure part 2: So THAT'S A Fairy?!

by , 20th October 2013 at 05:20 PM (Racing the Mind)
I can't believe how far apart the first two badges are in these games! I give props to Game Freak for making more towns without Gyms, but I expected to battle Grant much sooner. It's a nice change of pace from Unova, though, but reminds me of how long it took to battle Hugh a second time in BW2.

There are some awesome visuals in XY! I love the little touches they added, like adding artwork, although I wish we could better looks at some of those paintings. The camera feature is really ...
  2. NYCC/ XY Nintendo World Launch Recap!

by , 18th October 2013 at 01:27 AM (Racing the Mind)
    I don't think I've still recovered.

Last weekend was absolutely exhausting, but rewarding. I knew NYCC would be off the hook when X and Y were announced to be released around the world that weekend. My big toe is still bruised.

So let's cut to the chase. I had a 4-day badge and cosplayed as a Litwick on Thursday and a Mega Absol on Friday and Saturday. Thursday night into Friday I was brazen enough to camp on the sidewalk outside Nintendo World to guarantee myself an ...

  3. UC's Y Adventure part 1: Here I Am!

by , 13th October 2013 at 11:07 PM (Racing the Mind)

After getting my copy at Nintendo World's raucous launch party during an exhausting New York Comic Con weekend (recap to come later), I set off through Kalos with my Mild female Fennekin nicknamed Hermione (creative, I know...). My character's name is Kristin (my real name), and my friend code is in the thread in the XY forum.

I managed to avoid most of the Internet leaks, although I overheard ...
  4. Ode to Gen V

by , 7th October 2013 at 02:00 PM (Racing the Mind)
Gen V is ending already?! It feels like yesterday when BW info started coming out. That was some round of speculation. I actually blame Gen V for bringing me back into the Pokemon fandom. Before Gen III came out, I was a sophomore in high school, thought I had "grown out" of Pokemon, didn't want to invest in a GBA with the meager income I got at the time, and felt that I had bigger things to get involved. (And I was mad about not being able to transfer my beloved Gen II Pokemon forward... ...

  5. I'm still euphoric...

by , 22nd September 2013 at 01:28 AM (Racing the Mind)
My alma mater's football team (Rutgers Scarlet Knights) beat the Arkansas Razorbacks 28-24 after being down 24-7! And I was there! It was a blackout (where people usually wear red on gamedays) and the crowd was really into it in the 4th quarter. Rutgers returned a punt for a touchdown and it started from there.

Others said it was the best atmosphere in the stadium since they bet #3 Louisville in 2006! (and that was the epic game that put RU's program on the map, also a 17-point comeback) ...
