My parents have finally agreed to let me buy a snake.
If everything goes as planned I should be getting an enclosure for it and setting it up this Wednesday, and I shall be getting the actual snake (a Ball Python) on Friday.
I am overly excited about this.
I wa originally going to get a Leopard Gecko if I got a good school report (this was way back, mind), which I did, fortunately - they didnt want me getting a reptile of any kind, but a friend of mine recently got a gecko himself, and they had a change of heart. Of course my parents working such long hours we hadn't actually had time to go to look at the geckos until about four days ago.
I feel I should probably mention my obsession with snakes, before continuing. Ever since I could remember I have been pestering my parents for a snake. In an attempt to sate my interest with the creatures I have gone through who knows how many fish, a duo of gerbils and my wonderful cat (still with us), but I still didn't let up about it. At the same time my revising for my end-of-years tended to be shaky, at best - so they offered me another reptile in the hopes it would actually spur ne on to try harder than normal.
Nonetheless it worked, so we went to the pet shop nearby our house in order for my parents to get a beret odea of what kind of care a gecko would need. When we got there, of course, I instead immediately fell in love with a beautiful Albino Checkered Garter Snake. On of the main reasons my parents did not want a snake was because my brother had a pair of rats that died a few years ago, and so they didn't want to be feeding a snake mice. The also don't like snakes generally but eh, what can you do?
Of course, as I discovered, Garter Snakes only required pinkies as they got older, and when younger can survive on a diet of fish and vitamin supplements. Somewhat reluctantly my parents agreed to let me buy it, I only because the snake was also relatively cheap.
But when we went back to the pet store to inquire about the snake we were told that Garter Snakes made pretty shoddy first snakes. She also told us not to purchase a Leopard Gecko either, because they didn't like being held. She told us we should buy either a Corn Snake, Ball Python or Bearded Dragon. While the Bearded Dragon was cheaper it also required a larger enclosure and feeding more often that either of the snakes.
So now I'm getting a Ball Python.
On a lesser note whole we were at the per shop inquiring about the Garter Snake I nearly fainted, which is always fun. The first-aider who came over to help told us it was the first time he'd actually been needed, which was cool, but I don't know P:
Anyway that was excessively log and rather boring so I'll end it here.
I am en route to Cornwall as I type this, so If there are any mistakes blame it on the fact I'm typing this on my phone.
Any suggestions for names are appreciated.
