Random things that bug me in my sections

Yeah, I just thought I'd talk and shit. Plus I want to get up to 1,000 blogs for SE, because why not?

Not gonna lie, going into this thread makes me cringe. A lot of posts do have good jokes. But then you have posts that aren't jokes so much as they are references lifted from other popular media. You also get jokes lifted from other media, which were funny then because they were original. These are just stolen jokes. Just be original, guys.

Another thing I dislike is when posts just go on and on with ridiculously long lines of dialogue and long-winded character conversations that ultimately go nowhere and cat be easily cut down. If you can't keep a joke to four mines at maximum, at least make sure the rest of the joke can at least support itself.

The One-note Venter
It's okay to voice your complaints, and I can understand the need to vent when you have nowhere else. (Side-note: You guys should really read the really awkward rageposts I wrote on other sites when I was 15. Hilarious.) It's okay to participate in discussions even if you have a negative view on the topic. But when your whole posting life in that section revolves around you insulting a character or saga, then it's a problem. It can get irritating seeing John or Jane User show up into every review thread and say "Wow, Iris ruined this episode. But then again, it's Best Wishes, it's already ruined." There's having a negative opinion, and there's using your negative opinion to post the same comment 42 times with different wording in different threads.

Insane & Inane Praise
Likewise, just posting about how much you love one saga and praise it like the third coming of Salamander Jesus is pretty annoying. BW is my favorite saga, but I'll be the first one to admit that it moves like a schizophrenic pony with leg braces. When you're a fan who truly love something, you can accept its faults, and accept the strengths and weaknesses of other things. When you're a fanatic, you go around posting about how this person or character is so amazing and anything that anything before or after it can't live up to their hype, while simultaneously downplaying all strengths and weaknesses of everything else in order to act like your thing has no flaws.

Original is the Best-iginal
This is a notable trend that I've noticed as of late. I don't mind if you think the Original saga is the best. Sure, that ideal is usually lumped with the nostalgic fairweather fans who left the show after Misty left and still call themselves fans of the anime. But I don't think people should be treated badly or stereotyped because they like the older sagas. It's your taste that hurts no one, and it's not some justification for people to shame you.

But gtting to my point: a lot of people have been going on about how "ooh amazing" OS is, and how Hoenn was "the start of a great decline." And like, okay it's your opinion. But a million blogs, threads, socks, etc. about the subject? Ick. I've seen them and the same arguments so many times that I try to avoid those threads when other mods are around, so they can take care of them in case someone breaks the rules. ~~Which is why y'all mods need to be on all the time so I can stay away. I read CoSS every, I think I suffered enough.~~

And what about things that aren't OS? Are you just posting here to talk about your love of the first sagas? What do you like about the newer sagas? What's your opinion on the newer characters, without just saying how they're not as good as older ones? What do you not like about the first sagas, and what did the future series improve on (besides animation?)

'Bandwagon' and 'Of DEMs and Mary Sues: The Told Story of Buzz Words' have already been posted a long time ago.

I accept your point about the anime threads. That's why I don't post in them anymore. However, i'm not sure about Caption the Screenshots. It's harmless and creative and who are you to say something is not funny or not good enough to post.

People who frequent those threads don't want to think the moderators are judging them, outside of rule breaking. If you're getting tired of your section, step down or ask to be put in charge of another.

I can see your point in Caption the Screenshots! Still, it's a great FnG thread with some great jokes to go with it. If I were a mod, those special rules (and their breaking, ofc) would bug me more in there...
As far as the "BW is ruined" thing is concerned, I think of it as a hilarious running gag (fitting the TONS of running gags we got in this series... ). After all, I have to agree to your opinion of Best Wishes, I really like it, yet I still like to see some people rage or even constructing jokes around it and its flaws.
As for the Original Bestiginal part, I have no words to say. You are right on topic. After all, we are in Generation 5, and we should finally get along with the past and the present and go on. Nostalgia is nice, BW116 flashbacks are nice, but THAT'S ALL!

I pretty much think that "people who frequent those threads" don't have and don't check blogs (let alone their mod's one). Those who like to rage on the Anime section just rage on the Anime section.
Plus it's not only that section that has problems for a mod to solve! Don't lose hope, Contrary!

It's my opinion. The title even states that these are things that bug me, which I think should be an indication that this is based around my opinion. I bare no ill will to the people in the thread. But I don't like the unoriginality of some content, and I don't see why it's bad for me to voice my feelings. I would hope my blog would be judged on its own values and merits, and not judged because I posted it. I'm not speaking as a mod (aside from a joke about the CoSS thread.) but as a person who frequents their sections. You can choose to view it as a mod passing judgement if you want, but I think this criticism and view should be viewed on their own merit and not because I'm a mod.

I'm not tired of my own section. Consider me a fan of the anime section: It was my first section here, I like all the people there and enjoy it most of the time. I'm also acknowledging the fact that it has its flaws and I'm just stating them.

Still, it's a great FnG thread with some great jokes to go with it.

There are a lot of great jokes. And even though I give it a hard time, I wish the thread is more popular. So many people in the section are funny and they rarely post. Not that the people we have now aren't funny, but the thread is missing a lot when it doesn't have a ton of people.

After all, we are in Generation 5, and we should finally get along with the past and the present and go on. Nostalgia is nice, BW116 flashbacks are nice, but THAT'S ALL!

Agree and disagree. I don't mind nostalgic topics on occasion, but not an extreme. Though the nostalgic posts as of late got me interested in the Kanto League.

Bulbagarden's anime section isn't as bias now as it was back in 2005 when I first came here. You should listen to those old Bulbacasts from 2006, the amount of whining in them from certain ex-mods who left the forums was unbearable. A lot of them are at pocketmonsters.net now.

It's understandable. A lot of people who prefer the older series are just really passionate and I don't think they mean to discredit BW. I enjoy BW more than DP, and OS and AG more than both of them, but there's different things that are good about each saga of Pokemon. It's all a matter of preference. No one's opinion is wrong or right, simply because people have different tastes and that reflects what they like to see most. The dub...I can't praise BW enough...after late BF and DP's dubs, it's recovering. I like BW's simplistic approach...it reminds me of the OS in a lot of ways. The only thing I really dislike about BW is that Ash hasn't gotten anywhere and it feels like the show is in an endless loop, but at least Ash regained his personality. :)

I'm not gonna lie, there's a lot of unfair stereotyping out there. I wouldn't exactly say things have improved since 2005.

Bulbagarden's anime section was a lot smaller community back in 2005. The whole anime section was only like 25-30 people at the most.

I mean aside from numbers. There's still a few people who take swipes at each other and their preferences under the guise of "debating" on a nearly daily basis.

P.S. Karamazov wasn't attacking anyone, he was just venting a little bit in this blog. There's being easily offended and then there's being attacked and this is definitely not it. :/

Probably because the whole debates are pointless. The show has been running for 16 years, obviously not everyone is going to stick around through the majority of it.

A couple of years ago the show didn't have that many episodes and the main cast wasn't as large. That's why I prefered the AG and early DP era, back then it seemed most people still saw every episode of the show, or at least tried to. I guarantee that had the VA switch not had happened, people would have enjoyed BF and DP 10 times more for dub-only fans.

Wait, me? Um, that's exactly what I've been doing (I have other reasons why I don't post in anime anyway). Tell that to the vocal minority of ranters.

And you're right Gliscor'd, it would have been better if there wasn't so much controversy, and that goes for more than the VA fiasco. Sometimes I just wonder why its so hard to have normal, positive conversations about certain topics. I've always believed it to be a people problem more than a subject problem.

All that "fighting" is pointless. As said lots of times, if you don't like it, you can avoid it. But it looks like ALL people (including me, of course) commenting in here are liking it in one way or another.

Face it, the Anime section is unique. Lots of people post in it, and in contrary to the Video Games/Recent Events sections which are considerably bigger, almost anyone keeps reading the other people's opinions and replies to them, making it feel more like a conversation.

I personally think this is on the positive side, as it makes Anime more fun to watch. Knowing that as soon as an episode's finished or some news are reported , we will post our reviews, crticize, and get criticized. Caption the ep's screenshots and so on.

That's why it's popular, and we frequent it. We like it! That's it!

I blame the flashbacks in the Charizard episode for the sudden surge of Misty/Brock and original trio complaining.

Did anyone notice a bunch of new people came to the forums around the time that episode aired, and the blogs were suddenly filled with overly nostalgic posts about Misty and Brock? It sure isn't a coincidence, since before that I rarely saw anyone bring up Misty for the entire span of Best Wishes beforehand.

UGH, those flashbacks ruined everything.

There's just flashbacks. That doesn't make any character return permantely just because of that. Flashbacks are needed for kids who wasn't even born or old enough to know who those old pokemon of Ash's were. They're not just to forefill the wet dreams of nostalgic fan boys/girls.
