Paul interrupts them and beats Ash 6-0, causing Ash to train. After training, Paul wipes out every trainer in front of him, destroys and enrages Ash, then somehow learns humility by being beaten in an unfair match against an Elite Four member, and leaves. Ash decided to train. Dawn mentions something about a Contest and trains with Ash some more, while Brock watches and comments on their training. One of Ash's Pokemon learns a regular move that isn't really exciting or interesting, so the training payed off!

Distracted by this and unable to think, Ash's Pokemon sans Pikachu and Pignite to lose their matches.
