The anime section

As I look upon the anime section, I see complaining, hatred, ideas I dislike, and general things that drive me crazy.

And I actually love the anime section, almost as much as I love the blogs. Sure, I wish we had more diversity in opinions and ideas. (Serebii's anime section, for example, has more variety. It also has more trolling, but that's beside the point. It's still a good section.) Sure, some people harp on the same things over and over again even when it's not even relevant anymore.

But the negativity forced me to see the anime from different perspectives. I wouldn't have liked Iris is it wasn't for Hellion's discussions of her and her skills - he made me realize that at the time, she was a bad trainer. Because of Hellion, Iris became accessible to me, and I eventually grew to like her. Seeing people criticize BW helped me to think critically, and in turn helped me to like BW, AG, OS, and even DP a lot more.

And aside from the debates and opinions, the anime section has amazing people. I've met some of my best friends there, including @CommanderPigg; @Meron; @Yoshi-san; (I'm pretty sure we met through one of Iteru's blogs.) @Fokko; @Musashi; @Likeitornot.; @Froakie; @garrison-san; @Gotpika; and many others, who in turn introduced me to many other people I consider my closest friends. I'm so glad to have met them all, and it's all because of the anime section.

@Shinneth;'s opinions are pretty much the polar opposite of mine. But I like to think we're friends! Because despite the different opinions we have (and even if I disagree, she does bring up well-written and thoughtful points), she is a fantastic person and she's very fun to talk to.

The anime section may spew hate and bile, but the people there are wonderful, and the discussions (usually) make me happy. I'm so glad to have such a great section with brilliant and fun people.

Hahaha just kidding I hate you all. Bring back Misty and Brock, anime sucks! Smell ya later, losers.

LOL, I've been complaining about the Johto saga non-stop for the last decade. :D

I know its time I move on, but it really bugs me when people compare Johto to the other sagas. ESPECIALLY AG, since AG came directly after it. I feel the fandom history should be maintained, as the Johto to AG transition was the most important anime transition in the shows history. It also explains why the original trio was disbanded and how Takeshi Shudo stepped down from the series.

I wish you guys were all in the anime section back in 2004-2005 when I came here. I was quite a ranting fiend back then.

Thank you, I appreciate that! :D I guess it isn't always a struggle in there, I just saw the Denryu thread, not one slice of negativity or seething hatred. :p Yep, the chronic whining can be nerve-raking but for the sake of my sanity(and everyone else's) I think it's somewhat good the Bulba anime department is solely focused on one ultimate opinion, although variety is the spice of life you guys avoid less strife with everyone thinking pretty similar to each other, thinking the same means more agreeing and more fun. It's a good thing overtime I just sorta calmly backed off ^^;; I appreciate the honorable mention once again.

No you don't. I was about Ash's age back them.

All the drama in there is just a set up to get the lazy moderators' asses up to feed us with their attention. We're only pretending to hate each other because we love to.

If you think the anime section is bad now you should have seen it back in 2006 when the VA change happened in the dub. Between SOVA trolling the forums and people trying to adjust to the PUSA voices to the people who watched the Japanese version who didn't care either way, it was quite a time.

This was all going on at the same time as that early pre-DP speculation and people still ranting about Misty, so you can imagine it was a hellhole back then. The controversy in the fandom was at its worst back then.

And I loved it. It was probably my favorite moments of being in the Pokemon fandom. :D

Did people have the same...respect they have for SOVA then as they do now?

Well at the start SOVA seemed like a decent idea. The VA change only just happened do it was assumed that maybe after BF that they could hire the old voices for DP.

At the beginning it was respectable but as time progressed and it became obvious ths old voices wouldn't return SOVA decayed and the trolling began. Bulbagarden had to ban all talk of the voices in the dub review threads for a long time because of it. Even the branch in the club section was locked.

The anime section will never change. It's always going to be a place for arguments and heated discussions but that's what makes it fun in a lot of cases.

I think SOVA has a good goal and worked hard, but they just can't succeed at this point and should realize there's nothing they can do at this point. Anyway, my thoughts on the 4Kids to PUSA/TPCi dub switch have been a simple matter of preferences, of which mine are mixed: I prefer the 4Kids voice acting, scripts, and dub music, as well as dub intros, as opposed to TPCi's. At the same time, I prefer TPCi's keeping onigiri/riceballs, lack of paint edits/kanji removal, and less dub music, as well as more of the original JPN BGM, as opposed to 4Kids. At the end of the day, in my eyes, the trade-off was not worth the switch occurring and caused the dub to decline in quality. Thus, in the end, I prefer the 4Kids dub to the current TPCi dub when all is said and done.

Yeah, I agree. I just don't understand why those people don't go Japanese only if they hate the dub. The show hasn't changed in Japanese, so it really makes no difference there.

The problem SOVA has now is that its hard for the community at large to give us another chance because of our past reputation. There's nothing that's actually wrong with what the group stands for, it was just poorly managed and often presented negatively. If I was older and more active on the internet back then, I would have surely done everything I could to prevent those flamewars and the minority of bad members that gave SOVA a negative rep in the first place. But as they say, the past is in the past. All that's left is the future.

I get asked occasionally why SOVA is even still feasible at this point. Basically, think of it this way; TPCi can make whatever decisions they like in the dub production. But its better for them to at least have some understanding of viewer opinions than not at all. If they decide to rehire an actor for a past role, or even a new role, wonderful. If not, then at least fans are making a continuous effort to communicate with them, and that's what really counts in the end. And I don't mean to turn Karamazov's blog into this discussion, but its my job to clear up any misunderstanding about the group I represent whenever possible.

^ I think the thing is nobody actually cares anymore. Most people from back then aren't following the anime anymore, and those that still are simply watch the Japanese version or accept the current dub.

Do you think people are going to spend their entire lives thinking about this?

Again, you've got to look at it from another perspective. The initial hype is gone yes, that simply can't be helped. But many of those fans, in addition to those who never even heard of SOVA in the first place, still regard the 4kids cast as their favorites much like you'd have a favorite Pokemon. So the idea is that we'd simply change gears and focus far less on trying to "right a wrong" and more on the value of working together to give feedback. Times change, the fandom changes, and so we simply adapt.

Edit; just reply via VM or PM if you want.
