I would wait for the Wii U, even if it might end up way more expensive than a Wii, at least you won't be buying two systems at the end, which is even more expensive! Wii is at end-of-life phase. Releases are still coming out, but won't be for much long. I give it 2 years tops, while Wii U should last at least 6 years. Every Wii controller should work on the Wii U as it's intended to work like that.

    ?

Every single Nintendo console released since the original Nintendo DS has at least some wireless functionality.

Here's a list of stuff you need to know first.

Nintendo DS/DS Lite: 802.11b, up to WEP security
    Wii/Nintendo DSi/DSi XL/3DS: 802.11b/g, all security configurations
I bet Wii U will support n to some degree.

But only DSi-enhanced games and 3DS games work with WPA/WPA2 stuff on a DSi or up.

Wii games will always work as long as it's configured correctly.

Ranch won't, as it's a download if I recall correctly. But considering it's only DP compatible, it miiight be time to let go of it.
