Red vs. Blue

Not the popular web series.

I'm talking (typing?) about the 1996 revolutionary phenomenon we call Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. Specifically, their differences. We all know that they differ in cover art, regional Pokémon, encounter rates, and so on, but I've always heard that Blue supposedly has better graphics and sound, as well as altered dialogue. Is that true? I can't find anything on the Internet that shows side-by-side those differences.

Also, according to How Pokemon Red is blatantly better than Pokemon Blue -Destructoid, Red is better. Which opens up another discussion: Which do you like better? Red or Blue? Or FireRed or LeafGreen? Or are you all "NAA Gen I sucks I only play games less than 10 years old now watch me compare Garbodor to Muk blah blah"?

    In Japan, Blue was the third version of Red and Green versions, with improved sound and altered dialogua and all that. But Red and Green were never released internationally; Instead Blue version was made into two different versions, Red and Blue, which both had the improved sound and graphics and things. So Japanese Blue is indeed better than Japanese Red, but internationally the two are virtually identical.

    I'm of the opinion that Gen I was the worst generation, with broken battling mechanics (Wrap was probably the most OP move in the games), insurmountable dominance of a single type (Psychic), and glitches. So many glitches.

    Of course, I had a bad experience playing Yellow, so I guess that left a bitter taste in my mouth.

    I didn't have any bad experiences, but yeah, the newer generations fixed up a lot of bugs that the first games had. That doesn't mean Gen I was bad, but at least Game Freak knew enough to learn from it.

    To me, they are pretty mush the same and the differences are mostly aesthetic.

    @apenpaap Ah, I see. That makes sense. So why does everyone even bother mentioning that when it's only true for Japan?
    @Jabberwocky Oh please, do tell.
    @GatoRage I've always played Red or FireRed myself. There really aren't many differences between the two compared to later generations, in retrospective. The only non-favorite version I've played is the poorly-translated Green, which is hilarious. Dr. Aochider to getting of PET!

    Just stating my opinion, man. No need to get passive-aggressive.

    The remakes are better than the originals in my opinion.
