Note: Saying I like TitG more does not mean I think it's better.

Just wanna get that out there before someone complains about it.

I prefer BCCT, I like the regulars there. And the discussion is often good.

Yeah, wanting to stick with the people you know more is a major factor in thread choosing too, I guess.

What you are forgetting is their history. They might seem the same right now, but they used to be very different. And something's history is a vital part to something's identity. I'm sure plenty of BCCT regulars remember TiTG as Random Messages, bmgf's hive of drama, where talking about how you were considering suicide was considered a normal thing. And of course the bullying that got multiple members banned. I don't think many chat thread regulars want to be merged with the thread with that stigma.


Also you can't just simply ignore people in a chat thread and talk about something else, and another chat thread, the situation room, is a great example of that. Some people would always sway the discussion towards anime, ignore any posts trying to talk about something else, and then those posts would get buried for others to find and everyone who didn't want to talk about anime was basically forced out. Luckily it's not as bad now, and more people post in it again.

I'm not really one to take histories into account for threads, though you raise a valid point that I have no counter for, and so I give in on that part of the argument.

Although, the first portion of your comment brings me to another thing that bugs me, the whole renaming of Random Messages into Tea in the Garden. If I remember correctly --though with the thread being over a year old my memory might not be perfect-- the renaming was done largely to disassociate the thread with the aforementioned negative stigma of the RM. I don't think it worked, because pretty much everyone knows that TitG is just RM with a new coat and a top hat. It may look different, have a different name, and have mildly stricter rules, but on the inside it's just the same as all the ones before it. Except now the mods actually care about what people are posting. Renaming it achieved not much in the long run, and quite a few people would probably be happier if it went back to being RM, even with the rules of TitG still applying.

And I still stick to my point that the BCCT vs RM/TG "rivalry", if you can even call it that, is pointless and stupid. People in TG (myself included, no point hiding it) talk shit about BCCT all the time. One point I see come up frequently is the apparent hostility towards the likes of us who prefer randomness in our discussion, though I hardly visit BCCT so I wouldn't really know. But what they don't consider is the fact that us in TG are just as hostile towards "outsiders" as they are to us, which is not surprising in the least.

Random Messages was not a hive for drama. There were way more random posts and it was a fun, very fast moving thread. There might have been a few incidents, but they were few. When they brought out Tea in the Garden, I was confused as to what it was really about and it wasnt explained very well IMO. Tea in the Garden and BCCT are like the exact same thing except one is in Fun and Games. I go to the chat thread now since Ive been there for longer pretty much. I think they are the same. I prefer the Random Messages thread for many reasons. Thats my take on the whole thing really. Ive gone to both threads for a long time and that's how Ive formed my observations. You might think my take is biased, maybe it is, but I enjoy the chat thread and Random Messages, to me, each had their own purpose. BCCT was for organized conversation, nothing wrong with that, I like organized conversation. Then there was Random Messages where people could goof off not be serious and just have a good time, I went there when I wanted to do that. Now I see the same thing happening in both TiTG and BCCT, there isnt much different about them.

Random Messages/Tea in the Garden was designed to be a fun and goofy thread where people can post whatever (within the rules) and not have to go with the flow. The Chat Thread was created for individuals to carry on conversations with one another that wasn't really a topic for a sole thread. Things about life and whatnot.

Also, if you look at other sections of the forums now, you will see that chat threads exist in those as well. Simply put, the staff feel that they don't need to force users to have to visit a different forum simply to chat. On the basis that chat threads operate more smoothly when they are being posted in by like-minded users.

Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever will it be a good idea to combine those two threads.

I suppose I am a bit biased the other way. I started with the BCCT and never really got into TitG, I went there once to twice and it just didn't really catch me. Some of it being it a bit fast where BCCT is slower, and I like to read the posts. Also BCCT takes up your post count and TitG doesn't.

I've been wanting to post a blog like this for quite a while (and I know I'm late shut up). But what Soul said is NOT true. TG is not fast-paced, was never fast paced (minus like, the first week), and never will be fast-paced. BCCT is ten times faster then TG will ever be.
