Roleplayers: Why the Sudden Interest in Sexuality?

Title caught your attention? Good, it should have.
I've noticed in recent months that including a "Sexuality" field in the Character Sheet template has become all the rage - even (nay, especially) in roleplays with absolutely no focus on romance or sexuality whatsoever.
Why? Is that sort of information relevant at all? And if so, do we need to know from the start? Heck, forget sexual preference, I'm going to start asking what a character's preferred pizza topping is, because that's likely to come up...
If my character cares what your character's sexual preference is, he'll ask. And he won't ask. If sexuality is not the primary focus of your RP, I hardly see how sexual preference is a significant enough trait to merit submitting it as part of your Character Sheet for the GM to approve.
But hey, if this is the direction we're going, then who am I to question? Henceforth, all Master Mew roleplays will feature some variation of the following Character Sheet template:
Pirates or Ninjas?:
Xbox or Playstation?:
LotR or Star Trek?:
Preferred Salad Dressing:
Republican or Democrat?:
Read the Book or Saw the Movie?:
Right Brained or Left Brained?:
Uses a Night-Light?:
Batman or Spiderman?:
Believes 'The Wizard of Oz' Harbors a Thinly Veiled Political Message?:
Great Grandmother's Maiden Name:
Believes in Aliens?:
Glass Half Full?:
If transformed into a maniacal supervillain, their Legions of Terror will wear what insignia?:
Edward or Jacob?:
Who Would Win in a Fight, Xena or Chuck Norris?:
