Thanks to jcogginsa for requesting these guys!
Elgyem and Beheeyem are two of the most interesting Pokemon of the fifth generation. They seem to be based on aliens, and the two have two of the most interesting names I've ever seen in Pokemon. Elgyem is a phonetic pronunciation of LGM, or little green men, a stereotypical example of aliens. Elgyem's name brings me to the first fault with its appearance. While not really a fault, I just don't understand why they did this. Elgyem's name implies that it is indeed a little green man, the emphasis on green. While Elgyem looks a little more teal than green, it's Pokedex color is blue, which is a little strange. This really doesn't affect Elgyem in the long run though. Aside from that, Elgyem looks great. I'll go bottom up. The feet look nice and simple and the way they connect to the body is also nice. The tail(s?) (or possibly the beginnings of Beheeyem's cape) is also cool. Elgyem's torso looks fine, but its arms and head are all what look great. Each arm has two thin stripes near the shoulder. Each hand, instead of having digits, has three lights: red, green, and yellow, which are presumably used to direct Elgyem's telekinesis. Relative to its body, Elgyem has an enormous head. The head is indented on both sides, and has an interesting Y-shape pattern on its forehead, and two thin stripes under that. Elgyem's eyes are like the green lights on its hands, though slightly more eye-like, if that makes sense. Overall I think Elgyem looks great, and is not only a very creative Pokemon, but well-executed.
Similar to Elgyem, Beheeyem's name is a phonetic spelling of BEM, for bug-eyed monster. While not as bug-eyed as I suppose it could've been, Beheeyem is a great representation of a stereotypical alien as a Pokemon. While Beheeyem's color is different from Elgyem's, overall it looks very similar to Beheeyem, a nice evolutionary counterpart without being too similar. Beheeyem is now a brown color and has added detail to many places. Beheeyem's legs are similar, but Elgyem's tail has now been turned into a full flowing dress-like thing. This probably represents a trench coat, an homage to the trench coats worn by so many different science fiction characters (notably Scully and Mulder of the X-files), sometimes by aliens themselves to hide their identities. The coat has four spots on its chest resembling the buttons of the trench coat, and a collar similar to the large collar of a trench coat. Beheeyem's arms are largely the same as Elgyem's, with the same red-green-yellow pattern of lights. Beheeyem's head has changed shape a little from Elgyem's. While Elgyem had an oval-shaped head, Beheeyem's head has been extended at the base to resemble a flying saucer. Beheeyem's eyes are a little wider and connect in the middle like goggles or sunglasses. The rest of the head is very similar, with indents on either side and a larger Y pattern with a few extra lines. Overall Beheeyem is a fantastic Pokemon, one of the fifth generation's best. While these two Pokemon are based on one thing (the stereotypical 1950s extraterrestrial, drawing from both the Roswell incident and Area 51 rumors), they appear to be designed with many different features of extraterrestrials in mind, which is what makes Beheeyem in particular so great.
As always thanks for reading! Next time I'll probably do Scraggy and Scrafty.
