These past two days have been pretty interesting. Vacation Bible School was supposed to start yesterday, but the church that is hosting it lost power over the weekend and didn't get it back until today, so we started a day late. The air conditioning still doesn't work because the electric company was able to restore just enough power to get the lights and some other necessities to work, but everyone is still grateful that things are beginning to look up. Hopefully the next few days will be better.
And as I mentioned in my last blog entry, I have to lead the children in the songs, and I was worried that I wouldn't be comfortable enough with the songs for me to be able to sing and dance on stage in front of everyone. But it actually went a lot better than I expected. It's one of those things where you know what you're doing better than you originally thought. And everyone said that I did a really good job and that I didn't even look nervous. I was nervous near the beginning of the day, but I got more and more comfortable with the job as the day went on. And oddly enough, the hardest parts were the times when I had to talk to the kids. Public singing is no problem for me; I do that all the time. And I'm not the best dancer ever, but the choreography is easy (after all, it has to be simple enough for preschoolers to do it). But public speaking scares me to death. My 10th grade English teacher once told my class that, according to polls, 90% of people would rather die than give a speech. I can relate to that. But the first day is always the hardest, and if I got through today with no problems, I'm pretty confident with tomorrow.
But now I must backtrack to yesterday. My boyfriend and I had been away from each other for three whole weeks because I was at camp and he went to visit his grandmother and then go on mission trip shortly afterward, we were really happy to see each other again yesterday, even though we couldn't talk for long because VBS got cancelled for the day. However, during the time we did get to talk, he asked if I could go over to his house because he had a surprise for me in celebration of our six-month anniversary (which was July 3, one of the days I was at camp). So some time around noon I went over to his house expecting to get my surprise right away...But he made me wait; he wanted to hear about camp first. So I told him that I had a lot of fun, and I recounted pretty much everything I could remember. That took quite a while to do, since a lot of stuff happened in those twelve days. Finally, he walked me down to the basement where there where lights strung up everywhere, a little arch decorated with flowers and more lights over the staircase, and soft violin music playing. When I asked him what it was, he said that since there was a dance on the last Friday of camp, he wanted to have a dance with me. So we danced for a few minutes, and afterward he played some of his songs on his guitar (they were love songs inspired by me ). Then we went back into his living room and just sat together and talked about a bunch of stuff. He told me about mission trip (finally! I was dying to hear about it for days! ) and he said that he missed me a lot. I was really glad to get to spend the whole afternoon with him; we really needed to catch up. And I missed him a lot too, so I just needed to be with him for a little while. It was very hard being away from him for so long, I'm not going to lie. But we got to go off and have our own adventures and be happy to see each other when they were all over. Things like that just make me love having a boyfriend like him.
Now I'm fast-forwarding to this afternoon. Just bear with me here, I'm almost done. After VBS, my boyfriend, his two brothers, his adorable little sister, and I all went to a friend's house to have pizza and play video games. She played Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party 2 with my BF's older brother, so that was fun to watch. She also let me look at some funny backgrounds she downloaded onto her iPod, since she knows I love reading jokes. Then everyone spent at least an hour designing each other in Sims 3. That was hilarious! We got to design characters for my BF's sister, his older brother, his little brother (whom my friend has a HUGE crush on ), and me. But my BF kept objecting to things about my character because he insisted that she wasn't nearly as pretty as I am. Still, it was a lot of fun messing with everyone's characters by distorting their faces and body dimenions and making them wear strange clothing.
As I said earlier, these past two days have been interesting. However, they have been a good interesting overall. It's weeks like this that make me glad to be home. Sure, I love going to new places and experiencing new things, but I also love getting to come home and have a good time with the people that I have at home. It might be hard for this week to get much better, but I have a feeling that it will still be great.
