R/S Remake Thread: Possible Rule Changes

I'm currently considering dropping the rule that bans discussion on the validity of RS remakes in the RS Remake thread, but before I do, I figured I would ask you guys--would you like the rule removed, or would you prefer leaving the rule the way it is?

Thanks in advance.

As long as it dosent escalate into flame wars, Im fine with that. It might take a bit more modfing of the thread, but VG has more mods now so its ok.

People would probably argue what is/isn't evidence of a remake.

@Neoflare: Yeah, we had the drop the rule before because of flamewars. With more mods, I'm sure we could handle dropping the rule. The reason I'm asking is, I'm not sure if people would actually like leaving it the way it is. Not everyone finds the idea of bickering over whether there'll be RS remakes or not enjoyable, surprisingly.

Why not make another thread for debating the validity of remakes?

Because half the members here don't know what validity means.

Seems a bit redundant, I don't know. The RS thread we have now isn't really active enough to warrant another thread on the same subject, only with different rules.

Well that makes sense. I In that case, I say you go for it.

Would there be any possibility of making a new RS remake thread and closing the old one altogether?

I'd like to join in but it's SO long.

I wouldn't close it. I mean, there's been a lot of good discussion in there.

There's no reason to read the whole thread, just read a page back or two and see what people are discussing and give your ideas on it.

    @Ivysaur
What would be the purpose of lifting the ban? Is it to just get the single thread itself more active? Personally, if it gets more active, but only because of senseless bickering and pseudo-science trying to predict whether the games will be remade with people who are so vehemently against the idea coming in derailing the thread when there's a peaceful discussion going on, then I don't really want it. The way it was, no matter how good or interesting people's ideas are for what they would like to see in the hypothetical games, they'd always get ignored because of the bickering. We don't need to justify the validity of spin-off games we want, and we've seen we can't have a peaceful discussion about it in the past.

Sure, new userbase, new people perhaps, but I don't really think things change that much.

I don't think it'll change either. Someone could list the Hoenn Elite 4 bit of music as evidence, but another would say that proves nothing. Kind of a negative view, because I don't see members in general not going into that personally and eventually flaming/baiting.

I considered dropping the rule not to raise activity, but because I think that given the considerable amount of time that's passed since the ban was put in place (hey, it was put into effect before I was even a mod) I thought we could afford to remove the rule. I'm not a fan on imposing limits about what members can or can not talk about; of course, if it's only going to lead to senseless bickering I have no problems with leaving things the way are. It's really up to the members.

Given the reaction so far, things'll probably stay the way they are. It was just an idea.

Well, I'd say you could give it a try and see if things devolve back to the way it was if you really wanted to. The population has changed a bit, but I still personally don't believe anything will happen except senseless bickering that drowns out other conversations.

I mean, its a choice between a rule imposed that restricts speech, or the lack of a rule which will in turn lead to restricted speech in another direction.
