Why can't chickens cross the road without their motives being questioned?

    I would think that, at some point in history, a chicken did something that was too horible to mention, and he did that shortly after crossing the road. From then on, all chickens have been suspected of being evil, and if they cross a road, people will jump to concusions about it.
