Observation today? Broccoli, monkey bread broccoli specifically. That's right, it's Cilan's mascot and partner Pokemon, Pansage who will be being observed by yours truly today.

Vintage Premium Brand, Pansage!

Pokémon Summary

Meet Pansage, Cilan's main Pokemon and Grass-type partner he used in the Striaton Gym before he started traveling with Ash and Iris. Pansage is similar to Cilan in more ways than one, almost like Ash and Pikachu. Pansage since the beginning of the show has shown to be a viable battler whose signature move, Solar Beam, would finish a battle after his trainer proclaimed the phrase "It's Evaluating Time!" (Tasting Time in the JPN Version). It's no secret him and his trainer are in-sync with each other since they are very similar to each other as pointed out in A Call for Brotherly Love! by various people. I'm just bringing this up now because it's most likely going to pop up a few more times in this article.



While it is true, Cilan and Pansage are practically one in the same. Pansage has shown some stray characteristics at times that set him apart from Cilan, for example Pansage was shown to be extremely besides himself over having to cross-dress. Cilan was embarrassed as well but Pansage was especially more ashamed and this influenced his battling and caused him to lose.

Character Interactions

Cilan

Cilan and Pansage are partners and symbolize the Grass-typing of the Striaton Gym. It's no secret these two are similar, as I've pointed out before. Pansage is probably the most "Cilan-like" Pokemon of his team, development wise and character wise. Pansage hasn't really changed too much which I'm pretty sure is to mirror his trainer. Cilan and Pansage have shown multiple times to team up with each other and work well together, like how they dressed up as Elesa and her Emolga in Climbing the Tower of Success! The two are definitely an example of trainer and Pokemon rubbing off on each other.

Iris

When Pansage fell sick to an injure sustained the same day from Dwebble in A Home for Dwebble! Iris whipped up some medicine immediately to help. Iris also thinks of Pansage and Cilan as "gentlemen" for taking it easy against her and her Axew in a training battle. Pansage shows some remorse after making Axew cry due to a too-strong Bullet Seed.

Oshawott

Oshawott battled and defeated Pansage and earned Ash the Trio Badge, Pansage during the battle picked on Oshawott several times, choosing to get into the otter's face and intimidate him as well as Bite his head. Cilan even says that Pansage is a far superior Pokemon to Oshawott in terms of relations to his trainer. After a defeat though, Pansage and Oshawott seem to be on friendly terms. The monkey and otter are just sorta aloft now-a-days.

Pansear

Pansear and Pansage are like doubles of their trainers, the monkeys are like brothers pretty much. When Pansear is upset, Pansage goes to check on him and Pansage finds the Fire-types gorging himself on apples . Pansear is a hot head like Chili and the more level-headed Pansage helped to calm Pansear down, later on Pansage helped his "brother" learn Solar Beam as a countermeasure against Water-types and break the losing streak it suffered.

Dwebble

Dwebble and Pansage met after Dwebble's rock-shell was stolen, Dwebble felt bad and Pansage did his best to find to calm down Dwebble but still being skittish from the attack prior. Dwebble hurt Pansage by accident, Dwebble was extremely sorry about this and this helped the hermit crab bond with Cilan in a way since it stayed overnight with the gang.

Character Development & Growth

Pansage is like Cilan in personality and development, Pansage on the whole hasn't really changed or developed. He did show he could utilize Rock Tomb, but he supposedly already knew that move. Pansage came into the show competent and there's not much that has really changed in his character or moveset, and I don't think there will because Pansage is like Cilan and he mirrors his trainer in that way. Nothing wrong with it.

He hasn't really changed, so I can't respond.

Is this character memorable?



I think Pansage will be remembered, mainly because Cilan is very memorable. No doubt, Pansage dressed up as an Emolga. But had a problem putting a bow on its head, this showed Pansage has no prob dressing up a female Pokemon. However as a straight-up female, wearing girly things for example he seems to be uncomfortable with. His Solar Beam is often likened to a Kamehameha too. He has had some memorable battles and good wins, tag battling with Unfezant for example.
