What up with the sudden, recent influx of OS love going around? Or maybe that's the vocal minority. There's seems to be a lot of it recently.
One word: Charizard. It came back, people suddenly 'fell in love' with the original series again.
Yeah, Charizard's reappearance definitely stirred some nostalgia (and hence forum posts) amongst the genuine OS lovers like myself.
It has probably to do with factor how many characters and pokemon from OS in general like Charizard or Misty have been absent for extremely long periods of time, with reaction from fanbase being perfectly logical.
Considering how longest character is absent, desire among people to see him again and what has changed is going to step by step increase building up suspension and excitement about fans when they finally see said character or pokemon again.
Its only logical that people are going to be heat up about character who was absent for very long time, especially if character or pokemon in question is highly popular with strong following being present around it.
Ew, the original series is so ugly...
There, balance restored to the universe. You can thank me later.
^To be honest, I actually prefer the style of the original series, Cel Shading and all. I especially hate how even quick attack sparkles now >.>
^Agreed. And I'll add to that by saying the expressions of the characters felt more anime-esque than they do now. OS to a lot of people, represented a time when the franchise was booming and fans were generally happier with it. OS love is extremely good for the community and for the series IMO.

Misty got her one token reference of the generation, so people got nervous/excited despite the fact that she probably won't be mentioned again for the next 100 episodes.
Much like the Misty lure was the only reference for the character back in DP, the flashbacks will probably be it for Best Wishes. When Gen 6 starts, we'll probably see some kind of Misty reference halfway into it...and the obsession will start again.
I've been in the fandom since 2003, I know the, "Misty cycle." Don't worry, already the hyped for Charizard has died down a bit and we'll be back to business as usual in the next few weeks.

OS rocked. It was collectively a great series in my book.

Tell me you hate OS, people. Really? It's my favorite series. Of course, I'm a nostalgiafag for that, I guess. I loved it, personally. That childish innocence, emotion, everything was great to me. *sigh*
