I don't calculate stat values, I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about natures. I love my Pokemon just the way they are, and treat them like individuals, with their own strengths and weaknesses, instead of making them suit me.

I hate hate hate when people tell others how to enjoy a game.
Or worse, when they have this holier than thou attitude because they think they somehow play more legitimately.

Well put, my friend! That's exactly how I feel about such games in a nutshell. No one has the right to tell you how to play any game "properly", as we all have our own styles. Most importantly, feeling that playing "at a higher level" doesn't mean you're having more fun than anyone else. Conversely, playing that way drains all the fun out of it. So I agree 100%.

That pisses me off so much. Sure, I don't calculate IVs and I hardly EV train, but ugh, let people play how they enjoy playing.

Yes! Thank you! My sister always gets annoyed because I don't EV train my Pokemon for competitions, but to be honest I could care less. I train my Pokemon how I want. Besides, their different natures is what makes them unique instead of how it makes them powerful.

Yeah, there's no problem with having a preference on how to do things in a game, but acting like you're superior for having such a preference is just :/.

While the above playstyle closely resembles my own (because that is the way I enjoy things the most), that is absolutely not the sole way of playing the game. There is no "THE way" of playing the games, everybody should play the games the way they want.

I'm probably only one of the few who likes to breed for natures and IVs. There's no greater feeling when i defeat someone online with pokemon i bred for Natures, IVs and EV trained myself. But yeah all people should play the games the way they want.

Hit the nail on the head. I can't really say I LIKE doing the above, however, I DO like control. Giving me a semi-competitive mindset even if I'm not into the competitive community. So even in my story party while I don't kill myself for IV/EVs I at most make sure they have the nature and abilities I want.

For in-game facilities the only way I'll win is if I bring my A-game. So no matter how frustrating and mind-numbingly dull (and how I actually procrastinate for weeks on it) it is, gotta do what ya gotta do.

However, that's howI see things and want to approach my game.

THE ONE TRUE WAY TO PLAY IS GARCHOMP ONLY NO ITEMS SET MODE FINAL DESTINATION

What they all said. I actually don't like IV breeding at all even though I do check them, but I sure like to think of the meta-game in itself... and even in-game I always make use of vitamins and coordinate my team and try to "casually EV train".
And when I do play competitively I usually preffer handicapped matches. But that's solely my prefference.

Play however you want. There's nothing wrong if you want to play for the pure mechanical aspects and there's nothing wrong if you don't want to even think of them.

It's not like it's a game that can't be played and replayed in innumerable ways anyways.

Playthroughs sometimes feel very dull to me with 4 attacking moves and just picking the same fast strong mons. I look at all the people complaining about competitive battling being limited to 10 mons, just to see their trainer card with a Braviary, Arcanine, starter, Lucario and garchomp and other mons that are basically just all out attackers.

To me pokemon trained with no direction are limited to 649. With different training one pokemon can be 3-4 different type of fighter. Some pokemon are entirely useless with regular training and only step up when specially trained. Hopefully with mega training people will understand this more and think wow a bold Quagsire I'll teach him curse and make him a defensive powerhouse or Azumarrill with attack training. Maybe someone will even do a playthrough using a trick room team.
