Not all of them, but this type of fans; I just read this comment:

FREAKING AWESOME!!! NO MORE ASH!!

I think the worst part of this special will be the commotion caused by Red fans. And even so, I don't get where they're coming from:

I just don't get it. People idealize Red, make a God out of him when in reality, all they truly idealize is how "badass" he is? Sure, he is a strong trainer but is that all there is to his character? His strength? No looks at his personality, development, but a mere look on his powerful, evolved team and that's it? That's the character you idealize? Someone unbeatable, someone who doesn't even speak. A Gary Stu? Or is it the fact he was THE original trainer they idealize? What makes Red so popular?

What do you guys think? What is it in him that makes his fans so unbearable?

It's because Game Red is basically ourselves. For instance, I played as Pokemon Trainer Red in Generation 1. Thus, I was Red - the ultimate trainer who beet my snobby rival and became the champion.

I think it's mostly from that we (Red fans) see ourselves as Red that we think Red is awesome - a.k.a, we are awesome.

Mind, I don't worship Red. XDD Just an example.

What does that make the other Player Characters then? Their fans don't act like their anime counterparts are the bane of existence.

I guess because they (the other PCs) don't come back in the next games as a final boss on a frickin mountain (or cave in GenII), they don't get that feeling of badass from them.

You're right, other player characters are also representations of us since they do not speak either. I feel like Red being the original trainer brings out the worst out of genwunners and this special definitely doesn't help. I was never really a fan of overly enthusiastic Red fans who think he's the God of all and who think he should replace Ash. I simply think they fell in love with this ideal image of an unbeatable trainer and Red's muteness only makes them worship him even more.

Because really, who doesn't like the silent hero who has become a legend of all legends by bringing down Team Rocket?

Its because People are tried of Ash who just kept failing to achieve his goal in every series and start a new .
And His Failure in Best Wishs made it even worse .
They want to see One series where Ash meant to win , But since Writer wont do it So they are all pissed at Ash .
People simply want a Protagonist who has a ending and will achieve his Goal .
Red has that type of vide on him .
Plus , Red did single handed beat Team Rocket & Giovanni , He beaten E4 , He manage to become a Legend.
Ash barely met Giovanni after 15 year where he got his ass Kicked without landing a blow .
Off Course , People Will See Red Better Then Ash .
Hack every single PC Character is better then Ash .
Trust me , I'm one of the big Ash-fan yet I want him to finish his Journey by achieving his goal in Gen VI and Get Lost afterward . I have NO INTEREST in seeing Ash in Gen VII and I have no interest in seeing Ash as lead Protagonist when my grandchild will start watching Pokemon .
People like -

-A really strong Protagonist

Or

-An Underdog who become really strong .

But they doesn't like an Underdog who become a bigger underdog in Future AKA Ash .

I wouldn't mind Red being popular, if only the other protagonists were a bit more popular as well. Red was the first, but in no way the best of all protagonists.

It's weird that people are excited for a character who is a blank slate in the games, and I imagine this version of Red will end up having his own characteristics and personality (probably pretty much Gen 1 Ash more or less), thus defeating the idea of a "pure Red", which really doesn't exist since "pure Red" is just a silent dude who is YOU.

Anyway, if anything the most annoying part of this is the Special Fans going on about how if this does good we'll get a Special Anime that's made for adults lol.

Special Red never caught all 150 Pokemon, did he? In fact, he has less Pokemon than Ash does by now. I assume the dude is talking about Manga Red too since he's got the "3 vs. 1 lost to prior injury" thing.

And we don't know how many Pokemon Game Red caught when he appears in G/S.

The problem is that there's a difference between being the Sue, and watching the Sue. I said before that we enjoy playing the games because we're the ones getting wish fulfillment, but watching someone else be special doesn't give that us that. That's why whenever kids rush over to fanfiction.net to tell the awesome story of how they became the ultimate trainer and pwned everyone, they don't understand everyone is bashing their beloved fic. The truth is nobody likes Sues in traditional fiction, we can't relate to them. Video games are one of few avenue that makes such a scenario possible.

That's the problem with Red, and one of main problems I always had with him, he's not a character, he's an ideal. Ideals aren't a flesh and blood person I could relate to. People have flaws, people occasionally fail, people sometimes struggle, it's watching how someone deals with that that makes the story worthwhile. Because that is what actually makes me care about what happens to them.

It's also bad storytelling to make someone win all the time, because then the outcome is already decided and there's no suspense. Honestly how hard is that to understand?

There has to be more to character than doing stuff and being quiet. That does not equal a personality. Honestly it sounds more like a robot if you think about it.

The problem with Red fans? They're not Red, not unless they are playing RBYFRLG, and they never will be. And that last part is what most of them don't get.

Note: So obviously this is a rant about the Game!Red fans. Fans of characters that aren't sticks in the mud like Special!Red are more understandable except for the insane fanboys that claim Game!Red was based on Special!Red. And a heads up that making Red become a Sue on screen in the new special would be an EPIC FAIL.

He certainly didn't catch em' all since we see the Kanto legendaries walk around and own the place in HGSS.

I like Special Red, for the record. But from Shudo's notes on Satoshi in his novel, Satoshi has much more potential to be an interesting Red-based character. Other than that? I do prefer how they handle him compared to Satoshi, but damn is he the most uninteresting Special protagonist.

Red is a PC character .
off course he doesn't have any personality.
You guys should judge him after watching the special .
Anyway , if Red does beat the E4 then his will automatically become better then Ash .
Off Course , Red from the doujinshi call ''Festival of champion'' was defiantly better then Ash .

On the contrary, I think he had a very good reason. Connected with the collapse of the Unknown Dungeon. It's just speculation though, which I hope to be proven true in XY.

I dunno, I think the "he's hiding from Mewtwo!" idea is kind of goofy edgy and such, I kind of hope that's not the case.

I don't think there's ever going to be a solid explanation for him being in that cave, I think they just needed an interesting spot to hide him away for players to fine. He was probably just training is a powerful location. And to be honest, I don't really care why he's there anyway nor do I think it's necessary to enjoy him, as people seem to like it being ambiguous since they can fill in the holes.

@Yoshi-kun

And What about making the Protagonist lose all the time ?
What about making a complete rookie superior just because he's the first rival Ash met ?
What about make Ash lose something big even if his competitor is the one making big mistake ?
If Ash was Overconfident like Trip in Junior Cup Or If he made the same mistake Kotetsu made then he will still suffer for his mistake .
Yet Trip* get away with being Over-confident and Kotetsu get away with his Mistake .
Why others can get away making mistake and Ash has to SUFFER for their mistake .
This are even worst then making Protagonist win all the time !
The only reason nobody making fun of Ash because Pokemon is a fiction but there is no excuse for Ash to lose like this .
NO IDEAL IS WORTH THAT HUMILIATION !
It like writer's way of saying Underdog Sucks and they shouldn't dream something big and try to achieve it .
You know , I hope Ash become one of those Protagonist who doesn't lose in XY series .
At least , That way XY series wont be as Bad as BW series !

*Losing to Alder isn't any punishment considering that he's the champion . Trip was sure that he will win the whole thing so he only need to worry about Alder . if Ash acted like that then he would lose to some other guy before reaching Alder and force to watch that guy battle with Alder and learn his mistake .

I don't anyone is judging what Red will be like since we haven't seen the special. That's impossible. What I'm saying is that he can't be exactly like the game version of himself for this anime to work.

More than likely, at the end of the day the reality will be Anime!Red =/= Game!Red. So my judgment of Game!Red still stands.

Record wise, yes. But as a person? It depends.

Doujinshi's don't count.
