Gen V is my favorite gen I bought all four main series games. And because I think the idea of a new type is pointless stupid and uninspired, I'm a purist.
People in this fandom like to put labels on people that aren't like them. It's sad, really, as we are all fans of the same thing...
The title fits, I don't get where your going with this and what a new type has to do with loving Gen V. EDIT: Unless you're being accused of being too old-school for not caring for the new type or something... Which would be silly.
That said, it took the fairy reveal trailer to make me realize we were running on an odd number in terms of types all this time. Major double take moment for me.
@Isaac Gravity; Change should justify itself and if it's only justification is nerfing the FOURTH or debatably third most powerful type than I'm not seeing the point. And what does it matter 17 is cool number 18 is not even a exponent of anything.
Were you such a purist when Gen 2 came out?
It opens up new ideas for Pokemon and might actually make some things make sense, like the Clefairy line being retyped to Fairy.
@Wyvernphlare; Water and Ground (more Earthquake) wrecking havoc and never getting real slap down (since all they do is make it hard to be a Grass Type) is annoying, true. Don't have a huge opinion on the Dragon issue. It's nice to know they'll have another type that can slap extra damage on them other then themselves and a type that'd you be less likely ever aim for a STAB though.
Too soon to pass any kind of judgement till we see how fairies stack against the types and how the unique to Gen VI ones look in the stat dept either way.
Also, it's not a matter of anything, really. I was simply surprised we had an empty slot in the type listing and I never cared to notice all this time. Okay, that and symmetry.
@Rainbow; Not gonna lie, gonna be pissed if Clefairy isn't retyped to fairy.
You don't have to get it, it's Pokemon.

Not at all there have been faries before in every gen even. And it has an egg group. It actually limits them they can't say make a fairy that is Normal/Dark because it wouldn't make sense for it to be normal and not fairy. It also forces them to make more fairy based pokemon and attacks for type balance. Design wise it's more restricting and requiring than opening up new possibilities.
Purist? The correct term is having an opinion, something not enough people seem to comprehend.
But let's take a step back and ignore the purpose of Fairies and the disappointment they are. This is the first new type in over a decade. This is a huge event for the franchise and something a majority of the fanbase hasn't experienced before. That doesn't hype you up at all about having a new type? Or is it just what the type is that makes you dislike it?
People are entitled to have their own opinions. Some of the new features of the upcoming games can be a disappointment to some people. There would also be people who feel indifferent about the feature. There would be people who feel skeptical and unsure, and there would be people who feel the new feature is unnecessary and wish GF used the memory space on improving something else. Then there are people who are happy about the new feature, and hyper about it as well. There are people who change opinions over time, so nothing's ever definite.
Everyone has different opinions. It's also natural to feel mad when someone doesn't have the same opinion as you, and get frustrated when they either say they're disappointed and/or ridicule that new feature you are so excited about. However, that doesn't mean you should go around accusing them for being purists just because you're mad after reading their opinion.
Here's a huge reminder: THE GAMES ARE NOT OUT YET. Nobody knows what the new features will be like in reality, and all we've seen are the trailers and the scans of magazines and some announcements on a broadcasting program. Nobody has ever touched the games just yet, so nobody can say anything definite about the features - no one has the authority to 'officialize' features as one definition. Thus, all opinions are accepted as well as speculations and feelings about the features.
If it makes you feel better they're only calling you a purist because "genwunner" is banned.
